Cape May’s largest bed and breakfast, Southern Mansion, was built around 1863 by a wealthy Philadelphia industrialist named George Allen and designed by Samuel Sloan. In the 1940s, the home became a boarding house and eventually fell into disrepair until Barbara Wilde and her family purchased the property in the 1990s.

Today, the property offers some of the largest rooms and suites in the area, filled with unique furniture and historic charm. Owner Sandy Vizzone prepares these meals with sustainable ingredients sourced from local farms. Two adult visitors are allowed per room and the minimum stay is two nights. The spot is named for the Hugh family, who originally lived in this 1883 French Second Empire house.
