October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one Fairfax salon is turning hair appointments into a way to give back. Mara Hair and Mode Studio, located at 4011 Chain Bridge Road, is hosting its eighth annual fundraiser benefiting the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, with donation-based salon appointments, online raffles, and community participation happening throughout October. The salon has raised more than $50,000 for the organization over the years, including more than $11,000 in 2025, and the team hopes to surpass that total this year. Read on for more about Mara Hair and Mode’s 2026 fundraiser benefiting the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
A Month-Long Cut-A-Thon
Mara Hair and Mode is offering its “Pink Wave” appointments throughout October, giving clients more opportunities to participate. The donation appointments include dry haircuts without shampoo, pink gloss treatments for guests with light hair, and braids. The salon will not be bleaching hair as part of the pink gloss appointments. Each service requires a minimum donation of $60, with guests welcome to contribute more. All proceeds from the appointments benefit the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
After raising more than $50,000 over the past eight years, Mara Hair and Mode’s goal for 2026 is to build on last year’s $11,000+ total while giving Northern Virginia residents several ways to participate — whether through an appointment, an online donation, or a raffle entry.
More information about the campaign, current raffle prizes, and online donations can be found on the salon’s official Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation fundraising page. All of the salon’s stylists are participating, though each stylist has a limited number of fundraiser appointments available throughout the month. Appointments can be booked by calling the salon at 703-591-9099 and selecting an available day and time.
Raffle Prizes From Local Businesses
The fundraiser also includes thousands of dollars worth of raffle prizes donated by Mara Hair and Mode and other local businesses.
Guests can donate online through the salon’s Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation fundraising page and select which prizes they would like their raffle tickets entered toward. Options include salon services as well as community gift baskets, with additional prizes expected to be added throughout the campaign.
Raffle ticket amounts are based on the size of the donation:
- $5 = 1 ticket
- $20 = 5 tickets
- $35 = 10 tickets
- $65 = 20 tickets
- $150 = 50 tickets
- $280 = 100 tickets
- $500 = 200 tickets
- $1,000 = 500 tickets
After donating online, participants should email [email protected] with their donation receipt, full name, phone number, and the prize number or numbers they would like their tickets entered toward.
Winners will be announced during the first week of November. Prizes must also be picked up from the salon that week.
Bringing the Fundraiser Into the Community
Mara Hair and Mode began softly promoting the campaign in September so clients visiting the salon before October could still participate.
The team is continuing to collect donations from local businesses for its community raffle baskets, meaning additional prizes may be added as the fundraiser continues.
The salon will also bring the campaign to the Fairfax Fall Festival on October 10th, where a representative from the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation is expected to join the team’s booth. Festivalgoers will be able to learn more about the organization and the fundraiser, with the hope of encouraging even more community donations.
