The Fairfax County Department of Transportation completed its latest Capital Bikeshare expansion over the summer, adding 27 stations across six Northern Virginia communities. The expansion was funded through congressionally directed spending secured by U.S. Senators Mark Warner + Tim Kaine.
The new locations include Annandale, Bailey’s Crossroads, Seven Corners, Belle Haven, Huntington, + Mount Vernon. The expansion also brought 45 electric bikes + 134 classic bikes to the county’s fleet, giving residents more options for getting around without a car. With the latest additions, Fairfax County now has 126 Capital Bikeshare stations, including locations at all 13 Metrorail stations within the county.
Setting Records
According to an announcement from the Fairfax County Department of Transportation, Capital Bikeshare recorded 6,560 trips in August 2026, setting a new all-time monthly ridership record for the county. September wasn’t far behind, with 5,770 trips recorded. That made it the busiest September in the program’s history + the third-highest month overall.
The new Capital Bikeshare station at Route 7 + Jefferson Street in Bailey’s Crossroads recorded 857 trips beginning or ending there between its installation in May and the end of September, making it the busiest of the newly added stations.

“Bikeshare helps fill in the gaps for those who choose to go car-free, eases the burden of walking to get to transit, saves the trouble of having to ask for a ride, is cheaper than a rideshare or taxi service, and provides joy for those who know what freedom riding a bike can bring,” said Fairfax County Department of Transportation Active Transportation Program Manager Zack DesJardins.
