How It Started

Kenny, the founder of Choir Practice and the husband/father at the center of this family-run venture, recently spoke with Carli from the BG team to share the story behind the bar. He explained that it was his wife, Angeles, who first sparked the idea while they enjoyed a summer night out at a local bar. Listening to live music over drinks, she simply thought: “We should do this ourselves”, and from there, Choir Practice began to take shape in just a month.

A Family-Run Foundation

Choir Practice is a family-run bar, something Kenny made a point to emphasize. The business will be operated by Kenny and Angeles and their three children, Gianna, Anthony, and Marissa, making it a full family effort from day one.

The idea of love and family carries through every detail of Choir Practice, including the bar’s logo. Kenny shared that the design was created using an old photo of his father, Charles Della Monache, who passed away in 2021. The image includes a pinky ring that once belonged to Kenny’s grandfather, was passed down to his father, and now belongs to him. Choir Practice is a place built on family history, shared memories, and meaningful connections.

What Locals Can Expect

Kenny shared with Carli what locals can expect once Choir Practice opens, explaining that the space will offer three distinct vibes throughout the bar. The main barroom will preserve the original character of the building, highlighting the existing tin ceiling and incorporating old school touches such as stained glass. The former restaurant area, now referred to as the Music Room, will feature a cocktail lounge vibe designed for a more moody atmosphere. And the third room, he said, for now remains a secret.

Beyond the inviting space, Kenny shared exciting plans for the future. Choir Practice will serve pizza made from a secret recipe inspired by a beloved Bergen County staple. The bar will also feature live music and, at times, guest chefs from among friends + family, further highlighting its family-focused spirit.
