This shop was opened in 1978 in Reston’s Washington Plaza on Lake Anne. There’s a little bit of everything here, from children’s books to adults, and the cozy setup makes for an easy way to spend a few hours reading and relaxing. The team also buys books, by appointment only. We like to browse for a bit, then take our selection next door to Kalypso’s for an al fresco beverage while we dive into our new book.

Reston’s Used Bookshop is open seven days a week from 11AM to 7PM.

Fairfax County Library Book Sale | varies

While the library system isn’t exactly an independent bookstore, the book sales are a great way to support the local library system while getting some new-to-you books at great prices. Each sale is organized by the “Friends Of” a particular library, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the library. The sales are volunteer-run and donation-based, and all of the profits get turned around to the library. Oftentimes, sales will center on a particular theme, such as Mysteries or Summer Reading. Keep an eye on your local library’s calendar for upcoming sales.
