From Craft Beer Fan to Brewery Owner
Owner + operator Curry Lee has been working toward opening his own brewery for years. “I’ve been a craft beer nerd for a long time,” he said. “I’ve had a website and a podcast about it.” He’s worked in the industry for several years, while keeping an eye out for partnerships or other arrangements that would help him take the next step. While looking into potential partnerships + investments, he discovered that Voodoo Brewing was seeking franchisees. After applying, meeting with the corporate team, and traveling to Pennsylvania for an approval process, Curry decided the brand was the right fit. “I really like the brand. I liked everything that they had to offer,” he said.

Curry knew he wanted to stay in Northern Virginia, so then the next step was to find the space. The building at 2315 Dulles Station Boulevard was just being built around the time that Curry was negotiating with the Voodoo team. The blank slate turned out the perfect space for the brewery, and Curry’s been able to have a hand in everything from the flooring to the artwork.

The space has murals, chalk artwork, a graffiti-covered pillar, and artwork on the doors + windows created by a local Reston artist. Curry said one of his favorite parts of the project has been seeing all of those individual decisions finally come together. “There’s something very cool to look at no matter where you turn,” he said.
What to Expect
One of Voodoo Brewing’s guiding ideas is that craft beer is about more than what is in the glass. Curry described the brand’s philosophy as focusing on “craft beer, community + more than just beer.
The bar has 24 taps, with Curry expecting roughly 12 to 14 of those to feature Voodoo Brewing beers at a given time. He also plans to keep several seasonal selections in the rotation. Curry said the lineup is intended to include approachable options for more traditional beer drinkers alongside IPAs + specialty releases for craft beer fans. The bar will also serve cider, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beer in cans. The rail vodka comes from Northern Virginia’s Open Road Distilling Co., another local touch Curry was excited to incorporate.
The core menu focuses on elevated American bar food, including pizza, burgers + wings, with additional specials from Curry and the chef. One addition Curry is particularly excited about is homemade mozzarella, which will be available for dishes including pizza + burgers, with possibilities like fried cheese also being considered.
One feature that makes this spot especially fun is its pinball lineup – it was something Curry specifically wanted to incorporate. He connected with the team behind The Pinball Basement to get a fun selection for the space. The machines will rotate over time, so guests will always have something new to explore.

Voodoo Brewing is also intended to be a gathering place. Curry has already been in touch with bands and entertainment providers about programming such as live music, trivia + bar jeopardy. The brewery can also host private events, from partial-space reservations to full buyouts depending on the day, group size + other factors. Food and beverage packages can be customized for events, too. The entire patio is dog-friendly, and Curry is also considering outdoor programming such as live music during happy hour when the weather cooperates.
More than anything, Curry wants the space to avoid fitting neatly into one category. “It’s not like a sports bar,” he said. At the same time, he doesn’t want it to feel overly serious or intimidating like some traditional craft beer spaces can. Instead, Voodoo Brewing combines elements of a brewery, restaurant + neighborhood hangout into one space. “A lot of my care and love and attention and time are put into this,” Curry said, “and I think people will recognize that.”
Voodoo Brewing will open on October 24th at 2315 Dulles Station Road in Herndon. It will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11AM to 11PM; Friday and Saturday from 11AM to 12AM.
