Jennifer Brackenbury and Melissa McHale, better known as Jenn + Mel, are Bergen County teachers and the creators behind the TikTok series Teacher Lunch. Based in Bergen County, the duo has built a following by turning everyday lunch breaks, diner visits, and local food finds into feel-good content rooted in friendship, food, and community. As a former teacher and true diner lover, Carli from our team immediately spotted this fun Bergen County mom duo and knew their story was one worth sharing. Read on to learn more about Jenn + Mel.
Jennifer and Melissa met on their first day of teaching in 1996 and quickly bonded over their shared sense of humor. What started decades later as casual TikTok videos filmed during their lunch breaks has since grown into a vibrant online community. Their content spans lunch break chats, cooking videos, restaurant reviews, diner lore, and honest conversations centered on real life, food, and friendship, making viewers feel like they’re right there at the table (or classroom desks) with them.

During summer break this past year, the pair launched Diner Diaries, a series highlighting classic diners across Bergen County. Inspired by their love of Jersey staples like disco fries, Taylor ham, egg and cheese sandwiches, and a Diet Coke (Carli’s favorite, too), the series spotlights local diners while weaving in some foodie recommendations to try at each. One standout favorite diner that the duo frequents is The Crystal Diner in Dumont, known for its old-school charm + timeless vibes.
Whether they’re debating the best disco fries or sharing a real-life teacher moment, Jenn + Mel’s content feels like catching up with old friends over coffee at your favorite diner booth (NJ style, of course). Their love for Bergen County, great food, and genuine connection shines through in everything they post, creating a nostalgic, feel-good energy that keeps viewers coming back. But beyond the laughs and lunch breaks, Jenn + Mel are also helping keep New Jersey’s diner culture alive. Through Diner Diaries, they shine a spotlight on local diners, encourage followers to support small businesses, and remind us why these places matter so much.
Of course, Carli from our team couldn’t leave the conversation without asking Jenn + Mel to share some of their favorite local spots, diners + beyond. From Italian delis to longtime neighborhood favorites, their picks reflect true Bergen County knowledge. Here’s where Jenn + Mel love to eat around Bergen County:
