The Bergen County Girl Team Carlos Bagel Shop, a Hawthorne favorite located at 438 Lafayette Avenue, will bring its charm to Carlstadt with a second location opening this summer. The business teased the news on March 17 in an Instagram post, inviting followers to guess where the new spot would be, and in a series of three posts from March 23-25, the location was finally revealed. The Hawthorne business opened its doors in 2022, founded by father-daughter duo Carlos and Juliana Ospina. Their story begins with their immigration to the United States from Colombia in 1997. After 25 years of perfecting their craft, they decided to bring hand-rolled bagels to the Hawthorne community, because some things, like bagels, are just better in Jersey.
Carlos Bagel Shop serves hand-rolled fresh bagels daily, with options ranging from classic plain to everything, plus specialty options for holidays like Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day (yes, that means pink or green bagels). The menu also features breakfast sandwiches and a diverse array of spreads, including olive, jalapeño, egg, and tuna salad.
What to Expect at Carlos Bagel Shop
Guests can pair their bagels with drinks from the coffee bar, which features freshly brewed coffee, lattes, and espresso. The lunch menu includes alternatives like burgers, wraps, salads, and assorted sandwiches. The shop also has a convenient grab-and-go section, with bakery goods, parfaits, and fresh juice.
“Opening a second location is a big milestone for us, and it’s rooted in our commitment to building something truly community-focused,” Carlos said. “We’re excited to create a welcoming space where people can gather, connect, and enjoy food inspired by our Colombian roots.”
The goal for the new location is to place a stronger focus on its café experience + coffee program while staying true to what it is known best for: bagels. Guests can look forward to the popular pandebono sandwich, new bagel sandwiches, Colombian dishes, and a rotating selection of seasonal and specialty lattes.

Beyond bites and beverages, Carlos Bagels is about the experience. The Hawthorne location hosts a bright, spacious, and welcoming atmosphere for patrons, intentionally designed to foster community and comfort for everyone who walks through the door. The shop is set to open late May to early June. Per the team, this has been a two-year-long project, yet the official announcement came as a complete surprise to most fans.
