New Jersey locals love a lot of things, and a really good hot dog is high on that list. The Garden State has an impressive lineup of spots known for this classic staple, and one standout is 1950 Originals, located at 325 Broadway in Westwood. After a recent incident that forced the shop to close for several months, the doors are officially back open. Read on for more about this neighborhood staple.
1950 Originals Reopens in Westwood
1950 Originals initially closed on October 22, 2025, due to issues with an old cast-iron pipe, and officially reopened its doors on January 24. The team shared on Instagram, “To be welcomed back with so much love, kind words, and familiar faces reminding us how much this place was missed meant everything to us.”
The reopening weekend drew a strong turnout, and Casey from our team stopped by and noted that it was clear the community had been waiting for this spot to return.
The owner also shared on social media that the temporary closure is marking a new chapter for the space. Planned updates include combo meals, kids’ meals, and a more streamlined grab-and-go setup. Indoor private catering options, online ordering, third-party delivery, and pickup from the Originals alleyway window are also expected to roll out in Spring 2026.
