The three-story space will be staffed at all times and is “meticulously crafted to foster independence while providing top-notch support.” It includes neuro-inclusive amenities like a teaching kitchen, socialization areas, workout spaces, health + wellness areas, and event space, among other things.
“Thrive Red Bank stands as a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together to support some of their most vulnerable members, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live independently and with dignity,” the website reads.
In conjunction with the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services, the staff will be made up of senior clinical faculty from the University, as well as other trained staff members. Per the Autism Housing Network, the collaboration will ensure that the environment remains fully neuro-inclusive and that residents receive the support they need to live fulfilling lives. The apartment complex will also provide hands-on training sessions for Rutgers students.
Parents With a Plan, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has led the effort to create the new complex and its neuro-inclusive features alongside the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services. The organization was founded in 2019 and is “striving to provide robust, person-centered approaches to supportive housing environments, the very beginning of life’s independent journey for neurodiverse adults,” per the website. The Parents With a Plan team is made up of people who have experience with neurodiverse adults and are committed to ensuring they live a fulfilling life in adulthood.
