A boutique hotel inspired by the classic Monopoly board game is set to open in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The new hotel — which will be called The Top Hat, referencing one of the games’ signature pieces — will be situated at 215 South Tennessee Avenue in the City’s Orange Loop neighborhood, which is known as a nightlife district near the beach and boardwalk. The Monopoly board game, owned by Hasbro, is based on real streets and locations in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The property names in the game — such as Boardwalk, Park Place, Ventnor Avenue, and Marvin Gardens — are inspired by actual streets in the City and surrounding areas. Many of the game’s color-coded property groups reflect neighborhoods and districts within Atlantic City. Construction on the new project is scheduled to begin this spring. The streets in the Orange Loop district of Atlantic City correspond to the orange spaces on the Monopoly board game. About The Top Hat — A Monopoly-Themed Hotel

The Top Hat boutique hotel comes courtesy of Mark Callazzo and the Lakehurst-based real estate investment company RMS Capital, who also own several neighboring businesses in Atlantic City such as the Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall, Cuzzie’s Pizzeria, and Bar 32. An early rendering of the new hotel — designed by Long Branch-based Parallel Architectural Group — shows a replica of the Monopoly top hat token on the roof of the building and the car token built into the facade. The developers hope that the Monopoly-themed hotel will not only pay homage to the board game, but also establish a new cultural landmark in Atlantic City by attracting tourists with its unique accommodations and fun design. The architecture is anticipated to generate increased foot traffic, drawing visitors eager to snap photos and explore nearby establishments. The influx of attention is also projected to boost revenue for surrounding businesses while creating job opportunities for the community.

According to reports, the property will have 1,400 square feet of ground-floor commercial frontage and boutique hotel-style short-term rental spaces on the upper level. The Top Hat hotel will have six bedrooms accommodating up to 12 guests, plus a rooftop deck with sweeping Atlantic City views.

“The Top Hat at The Orange Loop is a game changer for Atlantic City. We’re not just building a structure – we’re creating a space that will serve as a landmark for residents and visitors alike,” Mark Callazzo,  managing partner of RMS Capital and developer and visionary behind the project, told njbiz.com.

“Atlantic City is a resilient and diverse community, and this project reflects my belief in its bright future,” added Callazzo. “From supporting local entrepreneurs to providing a unique space for visitors to stay and explore, The Top Hat is about investing in the people and businesses that make Atlantic City such a special place.”

About The Orange Loop Neighborhood

The Orange Loop neighborhood — represented by the orange spaces on the monopoly board — has been a hotspot for revitalization in Atlantic City beyond the hotels and casinos that are located directly on the boardwalk. Despite new businesses opening in the Orange Loop district, the City is still struggling to bring it fully to life. The Top Hat’s direct neighbor, the former Endicott Hotel, sits vacant next door, as well as many vacant and empty properties on surrounding streets. The Top Hat Hotel project is a part of the City’s ongoing efforts to build upon the momentum in the area.

According to New Jersey Family, construction for The Top Hat is planned to begin in spring 2025 and will take about 9-12 months to complete. An opening date has not yet been announced — this post will be updated with any further details.
