With Labor Day just around the corner, that means the best micro season is just around the corner: local summer. All of your favorite destinations are open and fully staffed, but the visitors (and Bennies) have gone home for the season. It’s been another busy week at the Shore, and we’ve got all the headlines to get you up to speed. Among the highlights: a new Jersey Shore-themed Netflix series is being filmed; a new mobile bookstore has launched at the Shore; and four NJ colleges were named among the nation’s top 100 schools.

-Shark! Nearly 30 juvenile sharks washed ashore in Sea Isle City in August while Bay Head and Mantoloking officials cracked down on illegal drone-assisted shark fishing and a family discovered a prehistoric Megalodon tooth on the beach (The Jersey Shore Girl). 

Netflix is developing a new reality series called The Leftovers from the production company behind Jersey Shore, following a group of longtime New Jersey friends, with filming already spotted at locations including Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant Beach (The Jersey Shore Girl).

-We’ll take a window seat, please. United Airlines announced eight new nonstop international routes from Newark Liberty International Airport for 2027, including destinations in France, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Luxembourg, and Italy (The New Jersey Girl). 

Upper Township unanimously approved a beach tag program for Strathmere, ending more than a century of free beach access with seasonal tags set at $45, weekly tags at $20, and daily tags at $10 (New Jersey 101.5). 

Five major employers are moving nearly 1,500 jobs out of New Jersey as companies consolidate manufacturing, headquarters, and corporate operations in other states and countries (NJ.com). 

-The Boss is in the house. Bruce Springsteen made two surprise Jersey Shore appearances on August 28th, first visiting the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music at Monmouth University and later joining Bleachers onstage at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park (Asbury Park Press). 

Four New Jersey colleges were ranked in the top 100 colleges via TIME magazine’s inaugural America’s Best Colleges ranking for 2026-2027(TIME). 

– No beach bag will be without a book. There’s a new mobile bookstore called Sandbar Story Shack popping up DTS (@thejerseyshoregirl_ via Instagram). 

Atlantic City’s iconic White House Sub Shop remains a longtime destination for its signature Italian subs and oversized sandwiches (Asbury Park Press).

The Monmouth County SPCA announced two new monthly programs designed to foster connection, companionship, and emotional wellness throughout the community: Senior Snuggle Sundays and Memory Circle: Pet Bereavement Group. Both programs will launch this fall and will be offered free of charge as part of the organization’s commitment to supporting people and animals across Monmouth County (Monmouth County SPCA). 

Four New Jersey boardwalks made USA Today’s list of the 10 best in America, with Wildwood ranking No. 1, Ocean City No. 3, Atlantic City No. 5, and Point Pleasant Beach No. 10 (97.3 ESPN).

Dozens of jellyfish stings were reported along the Jersey Shore over the weekend, including incidents in Asbury Park, Long Branch, Manasquan, and Point Pleasant Beach (News 12 New Jersey).
