Cheeseboards are a classic for a reason. A well-balanced cheeseboard has a mix of flavors and textures: each guest can create a selection customized to their palate. Since cheeseboards are a staple of the Thanksgiving spread, we rounded up all of our favorite go-to spots for the best cheeseboard ingredients – from sweet to salty and everything in between. Read on for where to find Northern Virginia’s best cheeseboards.
Arrowine & Cheese | 4508 Cherry Hill Road, Arlington
This Arlington shop has been stocking Northern Virginians’ fridges with beer, wine, cheese, meat, and other gourmet snacks for decades. The shop has won literally every award possible, but the shop is most proud of its neighborhood roots. Cheese selections here range from the basic to the exotic, and the team’s expertise means they are a great resource when making your charcuterie selections.
Cheesetique | 2411 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria

This iconic spot opened in 2004 in Del Ray. We say it’s iconic not just because of its eye-catching black-and-white-striped awnings, or the life-size cow outside the Del Ray location, but because of its truly incredible selection of cheeses. The team makes it easy to build the cheeseboard of your dreams, with a DIY option of ordering cheeses and meats yourself or picking one of the ready-to-serve platters. The ready-to-serve platters are large (serving 10-12 people) or small (serving 5 people) and include cheese, meat, crackers, and other snacks selected by the cheesemongers. You can even add on serving utensils, napkins, and other service items. The team can also help with catering and offers delivery and pickup.
Oliver’s Corner Butcher Shop | 9912 Georgetown Pike, Unit 102C, Great Falls
While most people know Oliver’s Corner for its gorgeous cuts of meat and drool-worthy sandwich specials, the charcuterie selection is worth a second look. This is our pick for the easiest option: you pick the size of the board you need, and the team will help assemble it. The sizes are small (feeds 5-8 people), medium (feeds 12 to 15 people), and large (feeds 20 to 25 people). The order includes all the extras like pickles, nuts, crackers, jams, and a reusable wooden board. To quote Ina Garten, how easy is that?
Screwtop Wine Bar | 1025 N Fillmore Street, Arlington

We like this spot for the laid-back vibes and great selection. Maybe one of the best-kept secrets here is the pick-it-yourself gift basket option: the team will help you select and coordinate the items for a top-tier gift, which means yes, you can (theoretically) gift someone a cheeseboard. We’re here for it. And, if thinking about a cheeseboard makes you hungry, just take a seat and enjoy one of the freshly made menu items from the cafe menu. Local delivery is also available.
The Cut Butchery | 7968 Fort Hunt Road, Fort Hunt

This butcher shop has a small but mighty market tucked in one corner. It is stocked with many locally made items, including everything needed for a delicious cheese board – meats, cheeses, crackers, and more. Don’t forget to check the cooler for interesting spreads, dips, or other goodies the team wants to share.
The Swiss Bakery | 5224 Port Royal Road, Springfield
The Swiss Bakery is the place to go for a Euro-centric cheeseboard, fondue, or raclette. This slice of Switzerland has everything you need for a cozy night that’s *almost* in the Alps. In addition to cheeses, the fridge here is stocked with various locally made sausages and wursts. But maybe the best part is the incredible selection of freshly made breads, rolls, pretzels, and other carb-y delights to accompany your cheese.
The Wine Cabinet | 1416 Northpoint Village Center, Reston
2025 is the Wine Cabinet’s 22nd anniversary in business. This shop has a robust selection of Virginia wines alongside its national and international selections. For charcuterie, there are dozens of choices in the meat, cheese, and snack categories. Perhaps most noteworthy are the boards and other accessories available here: from seasonal cheese spreaders to cheeky cocktail napkins, this is the spot to take your cheeseboard to the next level.
The Wine Outlets | 1137 Walker Road, Great Falls; 6727 Curran Street, McLean; 114 Church Street NW, Vienna
Three well-stocked locations, friendly staff, and local delivery. There are plenty of reasons why this shop is many neighbors’ go-to spot, and the cheese selection is just part of it. Everything needed for a full charcuterie board, including crackers, nuts, and other accouterments, is available here.
