Turkey Trots in Northern Virginia

Some families have a tradition to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade every year, and others play flag football in the yard. If your family or your friendsgiving crew has the tradition of running a Turkey Trot over the Thanksgiving holiday, we’ve got you.  Here’s a list of local turkey trots, including some 1-mile and fun-run events, in Northern Virginia. Read on for more about turkey trots in Northern Virginia. 

November 16th, 2025

Tysons Rotary 5K Turkey Trot + 1 Miler | Tysons Central Park, 1775 Tysons Boulevard, Tysons

This race and fun-run event is hosted by the Tysons Rotary Club. Funds raised by the race will go toward the Rotary Club’s charitable efforts in Northern Virginia.  


November 21st, 2025 

Eagle 5000 Turkey Trot | Thomas Edison High School, 5801 Franconia Road, Alexandria

This race will take place on the track at Thomas Edison High School. The race is a fundraiser for the Edison High School Cross Country and Track and Field teams.

November 22nd, 2025

Burn Boot Camp Gobble & Give 5K | Workhouse Arts Center, 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton

This is a family- and stroller-friendly event to raise funds and supplies for the Prince William County Community Foundation. Participants are encouraged to bring a food donation. The Prince William County Community Foundation’s mission is to create a stronger, healthier, and more connected community by addressing critical needs in food insecurity, health & wellness, scholarship, and philanthropy.

 

Herndon Turkey Trot 5K | Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Avenue, Herndon

This family-friendly race will take runners throughout scenic Herndon. The male and female overall winners will receive a turkey with all the trimmings, and all runners age 21 and up will get a token for a beer at Aslin Brewing Company. Runners are encouraged to bring canned food in support of LINK Against Hunger. 

Sully Elementary Turkey Trot 5K + Kids Run | 300 Circle Drive, Sterling
8AM – 11AM
This is the inaugural event for Sully Elementary School. The race is a fundraiser to provide field trips and additional after-school programs for student enrichment. 

November 23rd, 2025 

Vienna Turkey Trot (5K / 10K / Fun Run) | Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, 400 Center Street South, Vienna

It is the 23rd year of this Vienna tradition. This family-friendly event is a fundraiser for the James Madison High School Marching Band and the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.  Strollers are welcome, dogs are not. There will be refreshments available after the race. 

Thursday, November 27th (Thanksgiving Day)

34th Annual Virginia Run Turkey Trot | Virginia Run Community Center, 15355 Wetherburn Court, Centreville

This long-time tradition includes a 5K run and a 3K walk. This community event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, the American Boy Project, which supports people and families struggling with addiction. This event will take place rain or shine.


Arlington Turkey Trot | Lyon Park Community Center, 3020 N. Pershing Drive, Arlington

This year is the 20th anniversary of the Arlington Turkey Trot. The Trot is a major fundraiser for Arlington’s nonprofit community. Over the years, the race has raised over $1 million in donations to the community. Children, strollers, and leashed dogs are welcome to participate.

Braemar 5K Turkey Trot | 12300 Iona Sound Drive, Bristow

This race is open to participants aged 5 and up. This year, funds raised will support Morgan’s Message, a nonprofit organization supporting the mental health of student athletes. To note: there is no race-day packet pickup.

CAN the Bird 5K | 5885 Kingstowne Boulevard, Alexandria

This is the 4th annual race, which doubles as a food drive for local food banks. The route loops through the Kingstowne neighborhood, including the lake, which is a focal point of the course. There is a “doggie duo” race where first place goes to a male and female runner who finish first with their dog. There is also a first place for a man and a woman who finish with their stroller — with child. The race is open to participants of all ages, runners, and walkers.


City of Fairfax Turkey Trot (5K) | 4081 University Drive, Fairfax

This 5K race will begin at Fire Station 3, loop through Old Town Fairfax and George Mason University, and then finish near the Fire House. Proceeds and donations will directly benefit the City of Fairfax Fire Department Benevolent Fund. Awards will be given to the overall top 3 Male and Female finishers, plus the top 2 Male and Female finishers in the following age groups: 10 & Under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 & over.

Fairfax Turkey Trot (4-miler) | Fairfax

Funds raised from this race will support Britepaths, a Fairfax County non-profit organization. Britepaths is a dedicated leader in developing sustainable solutions meeting the challenges of low-income working families through emergency assistance, financial literacy, and one-on-one mentoring. The 2024 event had 2,000 participants, and race organizers were able to donate over 60% of the registration fees to charity.

Landsdowne Turkey Trot | Potomac Club at Landsdowne, 43459 Riverpoint Drive, Landsdowne

8:30AM – 5K

This family-friendly event is a fundraiser for the Loudoun County Bar Foundation’s Beat the Odds Program. Beat the Odds is a scholarship program that recognizes Loudoun County youth who have ‘beat the odds’ to achieve their higher education or trade educational goals after high school graduation.

Hero’s Bridge Prince William Turkey Trot | Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center, 9100 Freedom Center Boulevard, Manassas

9:30AM – 1 Mile
This family-friendly race has a 1-mile and 5K course. Strollers are welcome, dogs are not. There is an after-race party with a DJ and a Thanksgiving-themed photobooth. This race is a fundraiser for Hero’s Bridge, a charitable organization that serves elderly veterans of  World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The 1 Mile Run/Walk is a non-timed event geared toward youth however runners of all ages and abilities are welcome


Thanksgiving Day 5K Turkey Trot + Trail Run | Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston

No registration is required for this race at Lake Fairfax Park. The start of the run is located across the main road, opposite the main parking lot inside Lake Fairfax Park. This event is organized by the Reston Runners.


Turkey Day 5K & 1 Mile | South Lakes High School, 11400 South Lakes Drive, Reston

1M- 9:05AM
This is a family-friendly event at South Lakes High School. There is a one-mile and a 5K option. And, the option to run virtually. 

November 29th

Langley and McLean Crew Turkey Trot | Langley High School, 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean

This year is the 4th Annual Langley and McLean Crew Club Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk. Registration supports crew for high school students in McLean and Great Falls. Crew is a club sport and gets no funding from the state, like other athletic programs, so fundraisers like this are essential to keep the teams moving. There will be an after-race party with a DJ with music, treats available for purchase, and coffee and food trucks on-site.
