The Fairfax Girl Exclusive: Bagel Street Opens in Vienna

Bagel Street Cafe is Vienna’s newest eatery. The shop, located at 523 Maple Avenue W, is a family-owned business. Owners Jenny Liu and her husband Julio Santana say that the bagels are a reflection of their mixed cultural heritages: Jenny is Chinese-American and Julio is Dominican, and those flavors will be evident throughout the menu. The Fairfax Girl got an exclusive first look at Bagel Street Cafe and chatted with Jenny + Julio. Read on for more about Bagel Street Cafe, now open in Vienna.

About Bagel Cafe

Jenny Liu grew up in Fairfax, where she spent countless hours working in her family’s Chinese restaurants. After giving birth to her and Julio’s son, Logan, in October 2025, she knew she wanted something that would allow her more time to spend with him. “Restaurant hours are really long, you’re there till 10PM or 11PM,” she said. “We thought we would take our knowledge of the industry and move to breakfast and lunch service.”

Once Jenny and Julio settled on the breakfast concept, she got to work learning how to make bagels. “I took so many classes, we went to New York City for a class, plus a ton of stuff online,” she said. “It was so, so much trial and error,” she said, laughing. “But I had to get it perfect.” The bagels are hand-rolled

Jenny and Julio found the space in Vienna and hosted the soft opening of Bagel Street Cafe on Friday, March 27th. The hours will be from 8AM till sell out as the team finds its footing.

What to Expect

Jenny is Chinese-American and Julio is Dominican. She said that the menu will ‘speak about who we are,’ incorporating different flavor profiles. “The Chinese flavors include seaweed, miso, and Chinese sausage,” Jenny said. “And the Dominican flavors include things like fried cheese and Dominican salami.”

All the bagels and cream cheese will be made in-house. The bagel flavors will be plain, sesame, poppy, everything, blueberry, Za’atar, cinnamon sugar, rosemary sea salt, Sichuan Peppercorn, and salt. For Jenny, the bagels and cream cheese flavors are opportunities to try out familiar flavors in new ways. “I really want to work on a sweet plantain bagel,” she said. “One of the cream cheeses has koshu, which has a spicy, citrusy flavor.”

The bagels are also the vehicles for the sandwiches served at Bagel Street. Some of the more unusual menu items include the Sichuan Street breakfast sandwich, which is a Sichuan bagel with Chinese sausage, American cheese, scallion cream cheese, egg, and hot honey. For lunch, we’re excited to try the Green Garden, which is a za’atar bagel with hummus, avocado, lettuce, cucumber salad, and vinaigrette.

The cafe will have a full coffee bar plus a beverage cooler – excellent for those grab-and-go mornings.

Bagel Street Cafe is open at 523 Maple Avenue W. in Vienna. The hours are 6:30AM to 3PM, Tuesday through Saturday. Find out more via the website or follow the cafe on Instagram
