Outdoor Goods Store, REI, to Close Paramus Location on 1/8

The outdoor and fitness supply chain and co-op, REI, announced that it will be closing the doors of its Paramus location in early 2026. The business still has locations in New Jersey that will remain open, including its East Hanover location. The Paramus location of the retail chain is located at 2200 Bergen Town Center. Read on for more details regarding the closure.

About the Closure

The 2200 Bergen Town Center location of the outdoor gear retail chain is set to close on Thursday, January 8th at 8PM. In an announcement on its website, REI’s Paramus outpost thanked shoppers for 14 years of support at the Bergen County outdoor supply store. The store shared details for customers regarding their outstanding orders, stating that the location will be open for curbside pickup through January 8th.

REI announced that it will be closing three of its outposts nationwide in 2026, including the Bergen County store. Via USA Today, the closures come in response to declining sales and other challenges the chain has faced in recent years. The store is best known for selling fitness equipment, outdoor sporting equipment, including skiing and snowboarding, hiking, and camping supplies. Other store locations set to close include New York City and Boston outposts.

As of May 2025 according to Jersey Digs, the lot has been sold to KRE Group and Russo Development, LLC. The new ownership reportedly plans to build a multi-purpose space including 426 residential units, in addition to retail units and parking.
