Services

In recent years, maternity care has undergone a major shift, and as a result, it’s critical to be educated about the various services now available to all pregnant people: comprehensive genetic carrier screening for hundreds of inherited conditions; noninvasive and diagnostic prenatal testing such as cell-free DNA screening and amniocentesis; and advanced ultrasound imaging capable of detecting even the most subtle fetal abnormalities early in pregnancy.

Englewood Health’s MFM specialists offer:

  • Advanced prenatal  imaging
  • A full range of genetic screening and diagnostic tests
  • One-on-one genetic counseling and consultations with MFM specialists

For those at high risk of complications, OB/GYNs collaborate closely with maternal-fetal medicine specialists to identify them. From there, the team develops a personalized plan for you and your baby, involving thorough discussions and coordinating care plans to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the entire pregnancy.

Preconception counseling is available for those who are not currently pregnant.

A preconception visit is different from your annual exam. It’s focused entirely on preparing your body, your health, and your mind for pregnancy.

“A pre-conception visit helps you walk into pregnancy prepared instead of playing catch-up,” says Nathan Fox, MD, maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Englewood Health. “It’s an opportunity to address risk factors early, reduce stress, and make sure you’re starting from the strongest place possible.”

During your consultation, an MFM specialist will review your health history, medications, genetic risks, immunity, lifestyle habits, and recommended screenings to help ensure you enter pregnancy as healthy and prepared as possible.

The Local Girl Experience

Casey, a Content Contributor for The Local Girl, showed up at Englewood Health happy to see that parking was super easy — being 20 weeks pregnant, the quick and free valet was a game changer.

She stopped by the full-service cafeteria, which has a ton of options, for a bite before heading up to the MFM office, where there was a welcoming waiting room (a clean and comfortable space before an appointment is just as important as ease of parking).

Casey first met with Dr. Gupta, an MFM specialist — she made the process feel natural by taking the time to go over questions and all the content thoroughly. Because of this, Casey felt comfortable knowing the next steps and what to expect.

After the office visit, she brought Casey to an ultrasound room, where they performed the ultrasound, and Dr. Gupta shared her insights on what she saw (3D images were, in fact, available).

She then met with Dr. Goldwaser, a geneticist, and had an informative conversation. The doctor explained that she recommends genetic testing (carrier screening) before having kids, since it’s so important to know all genetic information.

Dr. Goldwaser made the science behind everything approachable and easy to understand. Dr. Goldwaser expressed a passion for everyone being their own medical advocate — she recommends doing as much screening as possible during the pregnancy journey.

Casey learned that just a few years ago, it was standard to test for only three genetic conditions, but now it’s standard to test for over 300. According to Dr. Goldwaser, “everyone needs to test for at least 113 conditions.”

FYI: These tests are often fully covered by insurance.
