About the Classes

L’Arte Della Pasticceria is an Italian bakery dedicated to exploring the best of Italian and Italian-inspired creations. Chef Andrea is from Sicily and uses both domestic and Italian ingredients in everything. While the store focuses on selling pastries, the shop also offers a small selection of savory items, giving guests an experience of both sides of Italian cuisine.

The four class offerings are A Night in Sicily, Lasagna Lovers, Gnocchi e Cavatelli, and Pizza e Pane. Each is designed to give guests a hands-on, immersive Italian cooking experience. The classes are BYOB, and the intimate space of the bakery means the classes are small and fill up quickly. The classes are limited to 10 students, which means each guest gets plenty of guidance from Chef Andrea.

Lasagna Lovers

We were greeted by Regina, the owner of the bakery, who offered us a non-alcoholic beverage to get the night started. She said that she was inspired to open the bakery in 2013 to share her love of all things Italian and bring a taste of Italy to Bergen County.

During the The Lasagna Lovers class, we learned how to prepare homemade sheets of lasagna noodles and three sauces to make a classic lasagna. The class advertised the finished product as ‘the best lasagna you have ever had’ and it would be hard to disagree. The three sauces include a ragu sauce, a bechamel sauce, and a pesto sauce to make a vegetarian lasagna.

Chef Andrea’s Sicilian style was on display throughout the class, as he was able to share his deep culinary knowledge with us. His background and passion for pastry truly shine through in his teaching style. He has so much knowledge to share, and his enthusiasm makes the experience enjoyable.

At the end of the class, we made cookies in addition to the lasagna. This added a nice touch to the class because it allowed us to also get an experience of how they prepare the pastries as well. We left with the recipes, so much food, and an amazing experience.

Final Thoughts

Andrea made the class both fun and educational. I learned so much about preparing lasagna from scratch, and I discovered that it really isn’t as intimidating as it seems. Whether you are a beginner or not, L’arte offers an unforgettable experience that creates memories that will last a lifetime. This is definitely a must-visit destination that is a meaningful experience in Bergen County. Overall, this was engaging and enjoyable, and I would absolutely recommend it for anyone who is looking to try something new and maybe step out of their comfort zone. This is a great activity to do with your partner, a sibling, or your parents/ grandparents!
