Guzzo’s Bakehouse is a cafe serving brews and bites, but it’s the friendly vibes that keep people coming back. Ralph + Giuliana Guzzo are the husband-and-wife team behind the cafe, located at 149 Terrace Street in Haworth. The Bergen County Girl chatted with them to learn more about their background and what makes Guzzo’s so special. Read on for more about Guzzo’s Bakehouse.
About Guzzo’s BakeHouse
Ralph and Giuliana Guzzo decided to move to North Jersey when their son got a scholarship to attend Don Bosco Prep to play hockey. Giuliana has always been in the marketing and event space. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she earned her degree in Marketing and Communications. Giuliana says that she has “spent her career focused on creating memorable experiences for people in the hospitality business.”
Her husband, Ralph, has been in the bakery business his entire life. Giuliana says that “baking is truly part of his DNA.” Giuliana has worked in bakeries her entire life, and they have owned several establishments on Staten Island. Giuliana said that “food and hospitality have always been the center of [our] lives.”

Ralph and Giuliana’s move to Bergen County took place just a few months before COVID. After the lockdowns, this was when they decided to open a small boutique brunch cafe. The cafe began with baked goods, and the team eventually expanded to breakfast and lunch.
Giuliana’s vision for the BakeHouse was to create a place where families and friends could come together and enjoy great food, and just as importantly, the experience. She says she “wanted it to feel happy, safe, welcoming, and homey.” She says that “with so much heaviness in the world, we wanted Guzzo’s to be a place where people could truly escape for a bit. We play I Love Lucy and The Honeymooners all day so that guests can laugh and smile.”
Giuliana said, “At the heart of it all, my husband and I are building a place rooted in tradition, serving the highest quality food with exceptional service and creating unforgettable experiences for everyone who walks through our doors.”
What to Expect at Guzzo’s Bakehouse
Ralph + Giuliana’s dedication to the cafe and its customers is evident upon entering the space. It’s a blend of comfort and love, and you can tell it’s infused into everything they do.
The menu has everything from eggs and omelets to salads and pasta. The BG’s favorites are anything from the pastry case (especially the croissants) and the omelets. Our favorite is the Guzzo’s omelet, made with three eggs, prosciutto, provolone, fresh spinach, and roasted peppers, served with home fries and a house salad.
As for coffee, anything a person could want is on the menu, from the classic cup to flavored lattes, matcha, and other specialty choices. The combination of the warm welcome, delicious food, and great coffee is proof positive that this spot is such a favorite.
They have the most amazing croissants and doughnuts, along with all the other pastries they have to offer. It does not stop there; they also have lots of coffees to choose from. They have lattes, tiramisu coffee, matcha, and lots of specialty coffees and teas. If you are in the Haworth area, I highly recommend trying this spot. It has great coffee, pastries, comfort food, and a welcoming atmosphere. What more could you want from a café?
