A heat wave has arrived in New Jersey, with some areas under serious extreme heat warnings issued by the National Weather Service from June 11th to June 12th. Even in towns without an official advisory, temperatures are still high enough to pose a health risk for all residents. To stay safe, the New Jersey State Department has released resources to know where the nearest cooling spots are for every town in Bergen County. Keep reading to learn more about cooling locations in Bergen County.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has shared a tool through its Heat Hub website called “Chill Out NJ that highlights different locations on a map of New Jersey that people can go to to stay cool. The Heat Hub website also shares additional information about weather updates and resources to combat the heat. For Bergen County, many of these places are libraries, senior centers, and pools. Here is a list of cooling sites across the county. Before visiting one of these sites, it is important to check the opening hours of the location, as they may change.
