Bergen County is home to so many good things, from beautiful parks and beloved food spots to its connection to the “original Hollywood” in Fort Lee. But what really makes the area special is the people who come from here. Turner has once again earned a spot on the world stage, continuing a soccer journey that started right here in Bergen County. Read on for more about Matt Turner, a Bergen County native heading to the World Cup.

Who Is Matt Turner?

Matt Turner was born and raised in Park Ridge, New Jersey, and attended Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale before playing soccer at Fairfield University. After going undrafted in the MLS SuperDraft, Turner signed with the New England Revolution in 2016 and went on to become one of Major League Soccer’s standout goalkeepers. Off the field, he’s married to Ashley Herron, a former New England Patriots cheerleader and founder of the Miss Pink Organization. Matt’s story feels especially Jersey. He did not follow the typical soccer path from day one, but his work ethic and talent helped him reach one of the biggest stages in sports. Before the World Cup roster news, Turner was also called into the USMNT’s March 2026 camp as the team continued preparing for international competition. The roster included matches against Belgium on March 28th and Portugal on March 31st in Atlanta.

Matt Turner’s Recent USMNT Call-Up

Matt was named to the United States Men’s National Team roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a major moment for the Park Ridge native and local fans cheering him on from Bergen County, and he shared the news on his Instagram on May 26th, 2026.
