Ayaan Mukherjee New Jersey isn’t called the Garden State for nothing, and every August and September is a time to celebrate one of the most famous crops in the state, the Jersey Tomato. Across New Jersey, farms, towns, and museums are throwing parties dedicated completely to the amazing vegetable (and yes, while there’s debate about whether a tomato is technically a fruit or a vegetable, an 1892 Supreme Court ruling has it classified as a vegetable). There’s a tomato festival for everyone, including all-day tasting tents with dozens of varieties, pick-your-own fields, tomato-themed menus, kids’ scavenger hunts, live music, and even a Spanish-style tomato smash all headline across the state. 2026 Corn, Tomato & Beer Festival
Location: Main Street Flemington, 31 Main Street, Flemington
Date + Time: August 8th, 12PM-8PM
Flemington’s summer tradition is moving to Historic Main Street for the first time on August 8th. The event draws thousands of people for a free day of live music, food trucks, and 140+ local vendors. There will also be a Hunterdon County Beer Trail tent, wine and spirits, and a 400-ticket VIP experience with tastings.

FesTomato!
Location: Multiple dates and locations
In its 8th year, Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey’s FesTomato is a free, family-friendly series celebrating the state’s favorite summer crop with all-day tastings of over 20 types of tomatoes. The events will also headline pick-your-own harvesting, farm tours and live music. This year the festival runs across four stops: Flemington (August 8th), Ironbound Farm in Asbury (August 15th), Walking Bird Farm in Egg Harbor City (August 22nd), and again in Flemington’s Hunterdon Community Farmers Market (August 30th).
Sweet Corn & Tomato Festival
Location: Alstede Farms, 1 Alstede Farms Lane, Chester
Date + Time: August 16th, 10AM to 4PM
At the Sweet Corn + Tomato Festival at Alstede Farms, guests pick their own sweet corn, tomatoes, and other vegetables. The festival will feature the Blooming Giants Sunflower Trail, hay wagon rides and a giant hay pyramid. Patrons can enjoy a tomato- and corn-inspired menu, live entertainment and kids activities. Admission starts at $19.99.
Tomato Fest Weekend at Terhune Farms
Location: 330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton
Dates: August 15th to 16th
Tomato Fest Weekend will be on August 15th-16th at the family-run Princeton farm Terhune Orchards. The festival celebrates peak summer harvest with tomato-themed tastings and specials around the farm store and winery. It is an easy way to drop in and enjoy the season and participate in some orchard activities.
Heirloom Tomato-Tasting Festival at the Hoboken Historical Museum
Location: 1301 Hudson Street, Hoboken
Date + Time: August 29th, 1-5PM
This tasting event will feature Jersey-fresh heirloom tomato varieties grown by Catalpa Ridge Farm. Free samples will be available, as well as tomatoes available for purchase. The farm also brings in house-made dips, pestos and salsas alongside fresh seasonal produce like corn, peppers and eggplant.
Tomato Day at the Farmers Market
Location: Burlington County Agricultural Center, 500 Centerton Road, Moorestown
Date + Time: August 29th, 8:30AM to 1PM
Tomato Day marks its 20th year at the Burlington County Agricultural Center’s farmers market. On August 29 from 8:30AM to 1PM, the market will feature Jersey Fresh tomato samplings, a tomato scavenger hunt for kids, a cooking demo, and tomato basket giveaways. The market will also have seasonal produce, baked goods, live music, and local artisans and crafters alongside the tomato festivities.

La Tomatina NJ: Tomato Smash
Location: Fairgrown Farm, 260 Wargo Road, Pennington
Date + Time: September 5th, 10AM to 12PM
Inspired by Spain’s famous festival, this playful event lets guests of all ages throw, smash and squish tomatoes with friends and family in a lively outdoor free-for-all. It is on September 5 from 10AM-12PM at Fairgrown Farm, with free parking.
Tomato Festival at Backyard Park
Location: 732 Broadway, West Cape May
Date + Time: September 5th, 9AM to 4PM
This community-driven festival takes over Backyard Park in West Cape May on September 5th from 9AM to 4PM. It will feature farm-fresh tomatoes, tomato-themed dishes, and handmade goods. The event is free to attend, and proceeds support the local Shade Tree Commission’s work to protect the town’s tree canopy.
