Over the weekend of Saturday, September 26th, a powerful nor’easter traveled through the East Coast of the United States. This cyclone hit many major hubs in the Northeast, including Pennsylvania, New York, and parts of New England, but New Jersey received some of the storm’s worst. Unfortunately, the storm did major damage to the area, resulting in flooding, power outages, travel delays, and more. However, amidst the darkness of this natural disaster, there was a story of joy to follow — a local Jersey Shore couple got married at the Water Witch Club in Highlands. The newlywed Megan and Alec Zuckerman, despite the warnings of the storm, chose to host their wedding and enjoyed a beautiful turnout as the nor’easter passed on. About the Nor’easter
A nor’easter is an extratropical cyclone that develops in the Atlantic Ocean, with many destructive effects, including heavy rain or snow, temperature drops, high winds, flooding, and coastal erosion. New Jersey was recently hit with a strong nor’easter over the weekend of Saturday, September 26th, with heavy rain and recorded winds of up to 74 mph.
The storm particularly had an adverse effect on the Jersey Shore region of the state, with eight counties under a state of emergency over the past weekend due to the weather: Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Salem. Many cities in the region were devastated by coastal flooding, roadway inaccessibility due to water, dune loss, and power outages for over 100,000 people. As of Monday morning, towns at the shore are still under advisories and recovering from the damage.

A Mid-Storm Wedding
And even amidst a sea of chaos, a feel-good story was found this weekend. As the nor’easter passed through the state, a newlywed couple, Megan and Alec Zuckerman, had their wedding ceremony. The two locals celebrated at the Water Witch Club in Highlands, one of the most affected cities by the storm.

“The weekend had all the chaos of a Shore storm: flooding in Sea Bright, road closures, a fallen tree, a clear tent overlooking stormy water, and an after-party that turned into guests drinking leftover wedding wine and eating chips in the hotel lobby,” Megan shared with The Jersey Shore Girl. She detailed that despite the storm doing its best to bring disorder to the weekend, the ceremony was a massive success and actually “incredibly romantic”.

Some of the couple’s highlights of the weekend included seeing a double rainbow during the welcome party on a boat, squeezing in some photos of the gorgeous sunset that overlooked New Jersey before the storm, and still having a packed dance floor throughout the event. Megan and Alec officially tied the knot on Saturday, September 26th, the day the storm was at its fiercest.
And now, not only does the couple have a one-of-a-kind story to tell — but they can also say that not even a nor’easter could stop love.
