Among the headlines: a new ferry service will start in Monmouth County; Cape May institutes a curfew for minors; and a rare tiger shark was caught in Manasquan.

–SHO Asian Table officially opened at 8 West Front Street in Red Bank, and we got an early look (The Jersey Shore Girl).
– Could it be you? American Idol will hold a virtual New Jersey audition day on August 27th, giving Garden State singers the chance to perform live for a producer through Zoom as part of the show’s Idol Across America search (The New Jersey Girl).
–The Jersey Shore’s fall food festival lineup includes Oktoberfests, chowder competitions, food truck events, Italian festivals, and other food-focused celebrations from Oceanport to Long Beach Island (The Jersey Shore Girl).
-Plastic only. Howell Township Public Schools banned metal and glass water bottles for the 2026-2027 school year over concerns they could be used as weapons, prompting backlash and a petition from parents opposed to the new policy (New York Post).
–Cape May adopted new restrictions barring unaccompanied minors from beaches after 8PM and other public spaces after 10:30PM in response to concerns about large gatherings, underage drinking, and disruptive behavior (The Philadelphia Inquirer).
–A 64-year-old Berkeley Township man was charged with two counts of reckless vessel homicide after authorities alleged he was impaired by alcohol when his boat struck a Barnegat Bay channel marker, killing his two grandchildren (Jersey Shore Online).
-What’s in the water? Nearly 30 small dogfish sharks were found dead across roughly 10 blocks of beach in Sea Isle City, with experts saying accidental fishing bycatch or natural stranding could be possible explanations (6abc Philadelphia).
-What’s in the water (part 20? Anglers caught and released a tiger shark estimated to be up to 12 feet long and 700 to 800 pounds from a Manasquan beach, marking a rare Jersey Shore appearance for the species (NJ.com).
–Upper Township introduced an ordinance that would require beach tags in Strathmere beginning in 2027, with proposed prices ranging from $10 daily to $45 seasonally and a final vote scheduled for August 24th (The New Jersey Digest).
-All aboard. NY Waterway is set to take over ferry service between Belford and Manhattan beginning September 8th, replacing Seastreak with expanded weekday and weekend service under a new Monmouth County contract (Asbury Park Press).
–Jackson Day will celebrate its 50th anniversary on August 23rd at Johnson Park with live entertainment, vendors, family activities, sports, and other community festivities (Jersey Shore Online).
–New Jersey unveiled a commemorative Revolutionary War license plate celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, with production expected to begin after the state receives at least 500 applications and the necessary startup funding. (FOX 5 New York).
–South Jersey beach towns collect millions of dollars annually through beach tags, with state law requiring the revenue to fund beach-related expenses like lifeguards, maintenance, and sanitation, though exactly how the money is spent can be difficult for the public to track (Courier-Post).
