What is Bougiefire?
Bougiefire is a French-inspired candle bar and boutique where DIY creativity blends seamlessly with charming decor and thoughtful gifts. The JSG team was surprised to learn that the boutique’s name isn’t just a nod to the modern slang term for luxury and high-class living: bougie literally means “candle” in French. Founder Christiana Poling’s love for candle-making and design is evident in every detail, from the carefully curated scents to the stylish vessels and decorative toppers available at the candle bar.

When we arrived for our reservation, Breakfast at Tiffany’s was playing on the TV, warm, modern lighting bathed the space, and every candle display and decorative accent, like gold frames, a crystal chandelier, and gorgeous floral arrangements, added layers of sophistication and coziness. Fans of Bridgerton or The Gilded Age will feel right at home, surrounded by a vibe that is both elegant and inviting. The experience is as much about inspiration and ambiance as it is about the candles themselves.
The Bougiefire Candle-Making Process
The candle-making experience at Bougiefire is hands-on, immersive, and super easy. Each session lasts about an hour, with your candles setting for roughly 30 minutes after pouring. We started by choosing our vessels, which are a selection of stylish 10-oz jars, and then explored over 30 fragrance oils to work with. We could mix up to three scents to create something uniquely ours, with guidance and tips from our professional candle maker, Kylie.
Once our scent was ready, we set up our space and got to work. We poured the wax, centered the wicks, and added decorative touches like colored mica and sparkles. After the candles cooled, we were able to add personal, decorative touches like stickers and an official label. Every step of the candle-making process made us feel creative, engaged, and excited to leave with something truly one-of-a-kind. Jess from the JSG team mixed coconut and vanilla to create a tropical but soft sun-kissed aroma and chose the iridescent vessel with a sticker of two birds in a heart, inspiring the candle name of “Lovebirds.”
One of the boutique’s most fun features is that it’s BYOB. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite drinks to enjoy while crafting their own candles, which adds a playful, social twist to the creative experience. The shop also has a “Nibbles + Sips” menu that includes small bites and beverages such as kettle chips, charcuterie, pistachios, pecans, wine pairing chocolates, sparkling water, iced coffee, strawberry matcha, and milk tea. We tried the Narra strawberry matcha oat milk latte, and it was truly delicious.
Bougiefire also hosts private parties, making it an ideal spot for birthdays, bridal showers, bachelorette events, or just a creative night out with friends. The team can help customize the experience, from selecting scents and vessels to guiding each guest through the candle-making process, ensuring that every reservation feels personalized and memorable.
