The Details

The speed limits in Asbury Park have been reduced citywide to 25MPH. The City announced the news on Monday, August 18th. The change was implemented to match the existing speed limits on all other Asbury Park roadways, with speed limits along Main Street and Memorial Drive being reduced from 30MPH.

Per a press release from the City of Asbury Park, the change gives drivers more time to react, reducing the risk of severe injury or fatalities in collisions — especially for pedestrians and cyclists. It also supports a more walkable, bike-friendly community, encourages exploration of local businesses and parks, and helps reduce traffic noise. The City worked with the New Jersey Department of Transportation and Monmouth County to implement the new speed limit.

“We appreciate the partnership and support of the Monmouth County Commissioners and County representatives in working with us to make this change,” Asbury Park Mayor John Moor said via a press release. “This collaboration is helping us make our roads safer for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike—improving quality of life for our residents and enhancing the experience for visitors.”

Signage that reflects the new speed limit was installed along Main Street earlier this month, with new 25MPH signage coming to Memorial Drive in the coming weeks.
