The Asbury Park Brewery — the brewery known for bringing craft beer and music together — has officially reopened in the heart of Asbury Park. The highly anticipated relocation and reopening of the local favorite brewery has been in talks since its original location shut its doors to the public in 2020. The new, refreshed space is located at 614 Cookman Avenue and provides easier access to its tasting room, more beers on tap, and a plethora of local food options to choose from and enjoy during a visit to the brewery. Read on for more about the new iteration of Asbury Park Brewery at the Jersey Shore.

About the Brewery

The Asbury Park Brewery debuted its original location in an old warehouse on Sewall Avenue in 2016. Asbury Park Brewery is run by musicians and beer enthusiasts Bob McLynn, Chris Cornell, and Mike Pimco, who all grew up playing in bands at local venues and went on to have careers in the music industry and other creative ventures. Considering their industry credentials, it was no surprise that the former tasting room on Sewall Avenue became an unofficial venue for touring bands and a popular place for locals to catch a show. Customers can look forward to enjoying live performances from musicians in the new tasting room on Cookman Avenue in the future.

“We’re pretty simple. We love beer and we love music. When you put them together we are the happiest,” founder Bob McLynn shared in a statement on the Asbury Park Brewery website.

About the Space

The new tasting room’s beer lineup features a rotation of new options as well as year-round selections of fan favorites such as Blonde, Sea Dragon, Easy Dragon, and Dragon Juice and seasonal options like the Watermelon Summer and the limited edition Stone Pony collaboration called the Pony Pale Ale.

The Asbury Park Brewery partnered with local artist Porkchop on an art installation in the tasting room that pays homage to Asbury Park’s vibrant and thriving music scene. The art installation features collages of show posters, photographs, and concert tickets of well-known acts such as Green Day, The Rolling Stones, Blondie, and No Doubt, just to name a few, from their past performances in Asbury Park.

While taking in all of the rich musical history and moments of Asbury Park on the tasting room walls, customers will also be enamored by a very casually placed MTV Video Music Award Moonman that sits behind the bar. This Moonman was presented to Fall Out Boy and Asbury Park Brewery’s founder Bob McLynn, the band’s manager, for the 2005 hit single Sugar, We’re Goin Down. Music lovers will also enjoy the tall wooden record wall filled with thousands of vinyl records.

What to Expect

The Asbury Park Brewery recently unveiled a limited edition collaboration with The Stone Pony. The Pony Pale Ale — an American Style Pale Ale with aromas of citrus, pine, and tropical fruit — is a beer celebrating The Stone Pony’s 50th Anniversary. The brewery’s brand has grown beyond the city by the sea with the Scarlet Ale, a beer inspired by Rutgers Scarlet Knights, McLynn’s alma mater. The Asbury Park Brewery has famously partnered with local and national musicians such as The Front Bottoms, Jack Antonoff, and Panic! At The Disco on limited edition beer releases.

While the Asbury Park Brewery will not serve food, guests are welcome to bring outside food in from the wide selection of wonderful nearby restaurants to enjoy with their beers. Some of JSG’s recommendations for convenient takeout options include Talula’s, Crust + Crumble, and Pasta Volo. The brewery is also kid-friendly and dog-friendly. Parking is available via metered parking on Cookman Avenue and the surrounding downtown streets.
