Read on to learn more about Coniglio’s and its expansion to the Jersey Shore.
About Coniglio’s Old Fashioned
Coniglio’s Old Fashioned was founded by Brooklyn-born pizza maker Nino Coniglio, who began learning the craft by working in pizzerias from a young age, according to the restaurant’s website. In 2005, he won the World Pizza Championships in Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy, launching a career that would eventually earn him 10 world titles.

He has also appeared on the Food Network and competed on Chopped (Season 39, Episode 4), where he won.
According to New Jersey Monthly, Nino now operates multiple locations, including several in New York City and Coniglio’s Old Fashioned in Morristown. He is known for fresh, high-quality ingredients and a traditional pizza-making approach. Raised by a single mother in an affordable-housing project in Bedminster, Coniglio also shared that his passion for pizza started early. He often rode his bike to local pizzerias in Raritan because it made him happy, and he would do chores in exchange for pizza.

The Asbury Park location will take over a 123-year-old building on Mattison Avenue and will mark the brand’s second New Jersey location after the one in Morristown. The original menu features pizzas, heroes, sandwiches, salads, and plates. At the new location, guests can expect the O.G. pies like the Brooklyn Round, plain, Josephine’s Grandma, Upside Down Sicilian, along with grandma pies and other specialty options. The opening will begin with a limited menu, shorter hours, and no slices – as emphasized in the photo of the sign below.
