About Java + Gelato
Java + Gelato started with Salvatore Russo, who has been working in the coffee business for most of his life. Salvatore’s father, Salvatore Russo Sr., founded the coffee company Plaza House Coffee in 1982. Growing up, Salvatore Jr. helped with roasting and door-to-door sales. Then, in 2023, Salvatore Jr. expanded the business, opening up Java + Gelato by Plaza House Coffee in Tottenville, Staten Island.
Java + Gelato was built from an old landscape trailer and offers coffee and gelato desserts made with Plaza House Coffee. The truck has expanded its business over time and has been booked for events beyond Staten Island, including in New York City and New Jersey.

In addition to planned events, the truck is available for day-of delivery for those in Staten Island and NYC. Customers can directly text Java + Gelato for orders up to 40 coffees, and the truck will send back the time it will be at the location. Now, Java + Gelato is moving to New Jersey and making a full stop at a new location in Asbury Park.

The new Asbury Park location is another expansion of the truck, and will be the first permanent and indoor spot for the business. The store will feature a full espresso bar and gelato stand, and consist of the same menu the truck has. In addition, it will have indoor and outdoor seating for customers. The spot is still under construction, but is gearing up for the opening. Salvatore has been documenting the construction of the store on the Java + Gelato Instagram and says that it will be coming soon.
