Rehab2Perform is a physical therapy and sports rehab company with three Northern Virginia locations. This DMV-based chain has set itself apart by focusing on the inner athlete in all patients in meeting their goals, whether that’s coming back from injury or improving one’s overall fitness. The company was founded in 2014 in Frederick, MD, and has been named by INC magazine as one of the fastest-growing companies in the Mid-Atlantic. The Fairfax Girl visited R2P’s newest location in Reston to learn about what makes this business stand out in the field of physical therapy. Read on for more about why Rehab2Perform is becoming Northern Virginia’s go-to spot for physical therapy.
What Sets R2P Apart
“More than anything, it’s the athlete-first approach,” said Dr. Manolya Martin, DPT. “We say everyone is an athlete as long as you are willing to move your body.” R2P patients range in age from 8-88, and each rehab plan is tailored to the client’s goals. “For some people, that’s getting back to their sport, maybe rehabbing an injury,” Dr. Manolya said. “For others, it’s being able to pick up their grandkids and play with them.”
The space has elements of an athletic training facility and an elite gym. There’s a large turf space for running and ground exercises, weight machines, free weights, treadmills, recovery chairs, resistance bands, and more. Dr. Colleen Hamman, DPT, ATC, came to R2P from major league baseball and said that the types of equipment at R2P are exactly what she used in the majors. “It’s incredible that our patients have access to that type of equipment,” she said. “Seeing that made me excited to join R2P.”
The team also prides itself on developing personal relationships with each patient. “We all have our own patients, but we want them to feel like they can approach any one of us for help,” Dr. Matt Giroux, DPT said.
R2P uses active healing modalities to help patients, such as strength training and active stretching. “Rest is important, but there’s a difference between doing less of something and doing nothing,” said Dr. Matt. “We can take the volume back, work on the underlying issue, and get you back to performance.”
What to Expect
Even before a patient’s first appointment, the R2P team will make sure that patients are prepared to have a productive visit. From filling out insurance paperwork to answering an intake questionnaire, the team works to understand the patients’ issues or injury and their goals.
Once a patient comes to the facility, they will be evaluated by one of the providers. “All of our sessions will start at a table for an initial evaluation to kind of see what’s going on, and talk about patient goals,” Dr. Manolya said. “Then we take them through a movement screen. We get people off the table pretty quickly and get them moving because the best way to get back to your sport is to actually be moving and doing those exercises and movement patterns.”

“After that, we’ll still ask a lot of questions,” Dr. Manolya said. “We ask a lot of questions to get to the root cause of the injury. The biggest thing to set a patient up for success is being honest with your therapist and telling them exactly what’s going on and then listening to what they say.”
“We want to empower and educate our patients,” Dr. Matt said. “We’re not going to make them do things they’re scared of. We also want to be realistic about how much time they have to do the at-home exercises. Even if it’s only a few minutes a day, we can work with that.”
Many physical therapy clinics use pre-printed handouts as a ‘menu’ of exercises to make up a treatment plan, but the R2P team uses whiteboards. “The whiteboards allow us to create something tailored for the patient, they can take a picture of it, and refer to it at home,” Dr. Matt said. “Patients can take videos of us demonstrating the exercises for them to refer back to,” he said.
