Several Northern Virginia businesses are hosting sing-alongs, paint-and-sips, and literacy events in honor of Dolly Parton’s legacy for fun, music, and reading. Whether you’re looking to belt out your favorite songs or add a little country glam to your Friday night, there are a few ways to celebrate. Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern is hosting a Friday night fundraiser supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Herndon event will feature Dolly singalongs every hour on the hour, raffles, guest bartending, on-site donations, and plenty of Dolly-themed fun. There will be a signature drink for the night, the Dirt Road Martini. The fundraiser supports the Imagination Library’s work providing free books to registered children from birth through age five, with local support from the Rotary Club of Herndon-Reston, Herndon Woman’s Club, and Friday Night Live.

The day will feature Dolly-inspired music, themed hard seltzers with names like 9-5 Dolly, Jolene, Please Don’t Take My Marg, and Backwoods Barbie, plus loaded fried chicken + gravy poutine to round out the Southern theme. Tillygoose will also host a custom trucker hat bar from 5PM-8PM for guests looking to add a little extra country glam to their look. Anyone who dresses like Dolly can snag their first pint for $5, so rhinestones, fringe, cowboy boots, and big hair are highly encouraged. The event is free to attend.

The Herndon paint-and-sip studio is hosting a Dolly Parton Night + Singalong featuring its Rhinestone Queen painting in honor of 9/25. Guests will paint while listening + singing along to Dolly’s music, and 10 percent of every seat purchased will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Tickets are $45 per person. Guests can also add a DIY candle-making experience before the class, while painters ages 21+ can enjoy complimentary beer, wine, and cider tastings. Mocktails will be available for purchase.

From September 25th through September 27th, The Company of Books will donate a percentage of sales to the Alexandria chapter of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. On Friday night, Pork Barrel BBQ will also host a ’90s country night from 8PM-11PM, with a portion of sales benefiting InspireLit Alexandria in Dolly’s honor. The neighborhood-wide celebration is all about channeling Dolly’s feel-good spirit while supporting local literacy efforts.
