Connecticut-based chain Sally’s Apizza will open 15 locations in Virginia over 2026 + 2027. Sally’s was ranked one of the top slices in the US by Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports and the One Bite app, dedicated to ranking + reviewing pizzas. Sally’s serves Neopolitan-style wood-fired thin-crust pizzas.
Fairfax County Meals Tax
In Spring 2025, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved an additional meals tax, which took effect on January 1, 2026. The new tax applies to prepared food and beverages sold by a restaurant or other type of vendor that is classified as a restaurant under the Virginia Code. Restaurants in Towns of Clifton, Herndon, or Vienna, or in the Cities of Fairfax or Falls Church, are not subject to the County tax.
This County-specific meals tax is in addition to a 6% statewide meals tax. According to the County, the tax will generate $65.1 million in the first six months of the program. The purpose of the tax is to create another revenue stream for the County, with the goal of reducing reliance on property taxes.
