One of Montclair’s most beloved outdoor traditions returns on June 27 as young anglers and their families are invited to cast a line at the Montclair Police Athletic League’s (MPAL) Annual Fishing Derby at Edgemont Park, featuring prizes, stocked fish, hot dogs and community fun.
Sponsored by MPAL and the Montclair Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 53, and presented in partnership with the Montclair Anglers, Eureka Lodge No. 52, and Montclair Recreation, the Edgemont Park pond will be stocked with more than 300 fish ahead of the derby.
Welcoming junior fishing enthusiasts ages 5 to 17 of all skill levels, attendees will compete for prizes in several categories, including First Fish, Most Fish, Biggest Fish, and Furthest Cast.
Admission is free and the event is open to all residents. Children should bring their own fishing rod and reel, while bait and tackle will be available for purchase on site. The derby is a catch-and-keep event, and will take place rain or shine.
