This annual living history, day-long event celebrates Dutch farm life as it was lived in the Civil War period. Farm-to-table food preparation and preservation demonstrations include activities for children. Costumed docents give tours of the homestead as it was in the 19th century. Garretson-harvested produce and plants are for sale, including jam, hot peppers, herbs, and hardneck garlic. Handcrafted items and local honey are also available.
Activities at the Harvest Festival are geared to all ages. Some of the activities:
- Visit the schoolhouse to study reading and math as taught in the 1800s;
- Tour the colonial garden with a Master Gardener;
- Talk to Civil War re-enactors about a soldier’s life;
- Special activity for children.
