Join Loudoun Clerk of the Circuit Court Gary M. Clemens, his Historic Records Team and the Loudoun 250th Committee in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.
The historic Charles Hamilton Houston Courthouse will be open to the public with exhibits featuring Loudoun County Revolutionary War court records, including a deed signed by George Washington. The Thomas Balch Library will exhibit materials highlighting past Fourth of July celebrations in Leesburg, while the Black History Committee of the Friends of the Thomas Balch Library will display the history of Black patriots & loyalists in the American Revolution. The Daughters of the American Revolution will showcase their program to preserve Revolutionary War-era records in Virginia.
The courthouse courtyard will feature family-friendly activities and booths hosted by local historical organizations and museums. Among other activities, visitors can enjoy Revolutionary War reenactors, hands-on children’s programs, a reading of the Declaration of Independence by the Sons of the American Revolution, and guided tours of Leesburg’s historic district. The Loudoun Museum on Loudoun Street will also be open to the public for the duration of the event.
This unique event will follow the Independence Day parade in downtown Leesburg. The Town of Leesburg is offering an evening celebration of Independence Day at Ida Lee Park so visitors to downtown Leesburg can enjoy a full-day of celebrating this special 250th Independence Day.
