A First Look at Rosangelly’s New Dinner Menu in Westwood

Westwood newcomer Rosangelly’s has just started serving dinner in addition to its all-day breakfast, brunch, and lunch options. The warm and inviting space at 1 Westwood Avenue is filled with greenery and is located in the historic landmark Westwood Trust Building, a former bank across from the train station. The spot originally opened in late December and has quickly become one of BG’s go-tos for brunch or a quick stop for homemade bread and pastries. We got the chance to visit for dinner and check it all out. Read on for more about the new dinner menu at Rosangelly’s in Westwood, NJ.

The Team Behind Rosangelly’s

Owners and husband-and-wife team Sebastian Perez and Rosangelly Flores take influence from their Colombian and Puerto Rican roots. In fact, the whole operation is a family business, with Sebastian’s sister lending her sourdough recipes and baking skills a few days a week.

When chatting with Sebastian, “passion” was the message he most conveyed — from the sourcing of the food to the staff and honing of their skills, the whole space and concept is very intentional. According to Sebastian, this is a space they “want to be around for 80+ years” and want to be “classical, not new and fancy.”

Inside Rosangelly’s Historic Westwood Space

While it’s hard to imagine an industrial old bank being warm and inviting, the team behind Rosangelly’s has somehow managed to do so. With potted trees hung with twinkling lights mixed in amongst the tables and herbs lining the windowsills, it gives off a romantic feel, especially at night. There is a reading corner filled with books just asking to be picked up.

When designing the space, the owners looked for lots of community feedback and had a strong desire to keep the character of the space. Working with the town, they kept the original floors and wood paneling, preserving the feel of the building, which was designated a local historic landmark according to the Westwood Historic Preservation Commission earlier this year.

Modern updates like fun light fixtures, new paint, and uniquely tiled walls and counters make the space still feel fresh, and diners can even see right into the kitchen through big open windows.

Rosangelly’s Dinner Menu in Westwood

Since everything is made in-house, from the actual roasting of the coffee to the daily-made artisan baked goods, we had high expectations for their dinner menu and were not disappointed. The Latin-inspired menu was small but had plenty of variety. Don’t forget — this spot is BYOB. There is a small mocktail menu plus the coffee bar.

Casey from Team BG started with Tostones con Camarones, which had twice-fried green plantains topped with Gulf shrimp, pico de gallo & mango sauce, as well as Grilled Octopus on Sourdough Crostini, which also included cherry tomatoes & chimichurri verde. Both apps were so light and fresh, but the octopus was the standout with melt-in-your-mouth texture.

For entrees, we ordered Braised Short Ribs with Potato Purée and Peruvian Pollo a la Brasa. The chicken especially was so delicious, and like nothing else we’ve tried in the area. We can never pass up dessert and went with the Mango Tres Leches Cake, which was the ideal end to a summer night.
