Tall Ships Are Sailing Past the NJ Waterfront for America’s 250th Anniversary

Every Fourth of July brings fireworks to the area, but 2026 is shaping up to be much bigger. More than 30 tall ships and naval vessels from around the world are expected to sail through the Port of New York and New Jersey as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration along the Hudson River. The event, called Sail4th 250, will bring ships, sailors, air shows, fireworks, food festivals, and millions of spectators to the waterfront from July 3rd through July 8th, 2026. For North Jersey locals, the Hudson River waterfront may be one of the best places to take it all in. Read on for what to know about the 2026 Parade of Ships.

What Is Sail4th 250 + The Parade of Ships on July 4th

The celebration, led by Sail4th 250, will run from July 3rd through July 8th, 2026, bringing what organizers say will be the largest gathering of tall ships and naval vessels in the world. More than 30 ships are expected, with participation from nearly a dozen countries and invitations extended by the U.S. Navy. Per Sail4th 250, the multi-day event will include an international naval review, an aerial showcase led by the Blue Angels, fireworks, food festivals, and public access to ships docked throughout the harbor.

The main event, the Parade of Ships, is scheduled for Saturday, July 4th, 2026. The procession will begin near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and travel north through the Hudson River, passing Manhattan and continuing along the New Jersey waterfront. According to AOL and NorthJersey.com, an estimated six million people are expected to watch the 15-mile parade, with millions more visiting the area throughout the week.

Where NJ Locals Can Watch

For those in North Jersey, the Hudson River waterfront could be one of the best places to see the celebration. From Fort Lee down along River Road through Edgewater, Weehawken, Hoboken, and Jersey City, there are miles of waterfront lookout points that may provide clear views of the ships as they pass, giving North Jersey residents a front-row seat right in their own backyard. For those closer to the Jersey Shore, areas near Belmar are also expected to have viewing opportunities, including organized watch experiences on the water. According to jerseyshorewhalewatchingtour.com, there will be dedicated Tall Ships viewing options along the coast, making it easy for South Jersey residents to join in. See here for more details on watch parties and viewing options near Belmar.

For North and South Jersey locals, the takeaway is simple: a ticket, boat, or trip into the city may not be necessary. With miles of Hudson River frontage in North Jersey and coastal vantage points along the Shore near areas like Belmar, this historic Parade of Ships could be as easy as finding a spot along the water and looking out toward the skyline or ocean.
