In the spirit of 2016 making a return, frozen yogurt is back in the conversation in New Jersey. Create-your-own, customizable frozen yogurt is experiencing a niche comeback across the state. It was at its peak in the early 2010s, and many of the shops today are long-running local cafés or major chain companies. The popularity has resurfaced in recent years, mostly due to nostalgia. We’ve pulled together this list of New Jersey’s best established spots, along with some newbies, for your next fro-yo fix.

16 Handles is a frozen yogurt staple, and it still has a strong presence in New Jersey since first making an appearance in 2009. The company is recognized for its modern flavors, seasonal specials, and a mix of yogurt and non-dairy options. With five locations in the state, it remains one of the stronger frozen yogurt brands.

CUPS Frozen Yogurt | 700 Plaza Drive, Secaucus; 2170 Promenade Boulevard, Fair Lawn; 852 NJ-3 #109, Clifton; 301 Mount Hope Avenue, Rockaway

CUPS is a self-serve frozen yogurt chain that has been serving customers since the early 2010s, and still maintains a network of locations in New Jersey. There are four Cups locations in the state, offering up to 16 different flavors and 50 toppings.

Downtown Yogurt is a small frozen yogurt business in Jersey City offering traditional self-serve frozen yogurt, non-dairy and vegan options, and other sweet treats. The shop opened in 2014 in Downtown Jersey City near the Grove Street PATH station and continues to be a local favorite.

Freezing Point Frozen Yogurt | 3100 Bridge Avenue, Point Pleasant

Freezing Point Frozen Yogurt is a small local business on the Jersey Shore, giving shore visitors and locals the classic self-serve experience since 2012. It has 15 flavors at a time and has a topping station, cups, cones, waffle bowls, and fro-yo sandwiches.

The Aberdeen location of Fro-Yo Cafe opened in 2012, and the Manalapan location opened in 2022, so this crew knows fro-yo. There are over 12 flavors available daily, and a mind-boggling assortment of toppings. Fresh fruit, sauces, candy, bakery items like cookie and cake crumbles, chocolate, nuts, cereal, and more. If it doesn’t exist here, it’s possible it doesn’t exist in the universe. 

Funland Frozen Yogurt | 6011 Bergenline Avenue, West New York

Funland Frozen Yogurt is a locally owned, traditional self-serve shop along Bergenline Avenue in West New York, operating since the early 2010s. It offers rotating frozen yogurt flavors, a toppings bar, and bubble tea. The shop is a casual neighborhood stop popular with residents.

Hey Yogurt | 288 Main Street, Hackensack; 18 The Promenade, Edgewater; 90 Hudson Street, Hoboken; 515 Main Street, Fort Lee; 80 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood; 316 Broad Avenue, Palisades Park

Hey Yogurt opened its first location in Fort Lee in 2023, grew in popularity, and has since expanded across North Jersey to Hoboken, Hackensack, Edgewater, Ridgewood, and Palisades Park. Unlike traditional fro-yo shops, the brand focuses on drinkable yogurt beverages made with fresh fruit, as well as other Japanese-inspired desserts.

Let’s Yo! in Montclair opened in 2012 and has remained a long-running frozen yogurt staple in the downtown area. It’s a traditional pay-by-weight frozen yogurt bar with a wide variety of flavors and toppings. Beyond frozen yogurt, it also serves milkshakes, boba drinks, sorbets, and other desserts. Let’s Yo! offers dairy-free, plant-based, and no-sugar-added options, allowing customers to create desserts that fit their specific dietary needs.

OMG! Yogurt + Ice Cream | 2153 NJ-35 #9, Sea Girt

OMG! Yogurt & Ice Cream is a family-owned dessert shop at the Jersey Shore. It crafts all of its flavors in-house using fresh, fat-free dairy. Flavors are rotated weekly, giving customers a wide variety of options with each visit. Alongside frozen yogurt, the shop sells hard and soft ice cream, smoothies, milkshakes, pies, and cakes.

In addition to the classic self-serve fro-yo plus toppings situation, Orange Leaf also has custom acai bowls, smoothies, and milkshakes. Basically, once the temps hit 90 degrees, this is the place to be.

Red Mango is part of a larger chain specializing in frozen yogurt, açaí bowls, smoothies, and probiotic-rich desserts. The Edgewater location has long maintained a steady presence in the retail corridor along the Hudson River waterfront.

Sonny’s Frozen Desserts | 599 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove

Sonny’s Frozen Desserts has been in business for over a decade, serving up to 24 frozen yogurt flavors at a time with more than 75 toppings. The shop also offers gelato, Italian ice, açaí bowls, and bubble tea, including dairy-free options. Sonny’s has an old-fashioned ice cream parlor feel and remains a popular neighborhood spot for customizable desserts.

Sweet + Swirled |  192 Spring Street, Newton 

This sweet shop opened in Spring 2025 and specializes in crepes and – what else – frozen yogurt. Here, the options are nearly limitless, with a variety of flavors and an incredible list of toppings. There are even frozen sorbet flavors for those ultra-hot days.

Taro Frozen Yogurt has been a longtime fixture in Morristown, known for classic rotating fro-yo flavors, including taro, a signature flavor that has become a fan favorite. Taro is a commonly used ingredient in Asian desserts and drinks, known for its mild, sweet, and nutty flavor. The dessert shop also serves bubble tea, milkshakes, smoothies, rolled ice cream, and Japanese crepes.

The FroYo Zone | 3038 State Route 35, Hazlet

Located on Route 35 (GSP Exit 117), The Froyo Zone opened in summer 2025. It has already earned strong reviews on Google and Yelp. The shop follows a traditional pay-by-weight model, offering everything from classic flavors to fun options like cotton candy and island banana.

Yo-Delight | 984 Teaneck Road, Teaneck + 136 Hopper Avenue, Waldwick

Yo-Delight is an established frozen yogurt brand with locations in Teaneck and Waldwick. It has built a steady local presence in Bergen County, and is known for its kosher, gluten-free, and live and active cultures–certified selection of frozen yogurt flavors, along with coffee, shakes, smoothies, bubble tea, and Dippin’ Dots.

Inside Edison’s Asian grocery supermarket, 99 Ranch, customers will find Yo Dessert, a newer yogurt-focused dessert shop. The company makes its yogurt in-house and is known for both yogurt smoothies and customizable frozen yogurt. Plus, it offers multiple flavors of tiramisu. The shop is expanding to Fort Lee, with a soft opening currently underway.

YoFresh | 168 Kinderkamack Road, Park Ridge

YoFresh is a long-running Bergen County fro-yo and smoothie café serving the Park Ridge community for about a decade. It offers around fifteen rotating frozen yogurt flavors that change weekly, with staples including country vanilla, classic chocolate, Euro tart, peanut butter, cookies and cream, and cake batter.

Yo-Factor | 1311 NJ-37, Toms River

Yo-Factor is a local frozen yogurt and ice cream shop on Route 37 West in Toms River, located next to the Marquee Cinema. It offers frozen yogurt, ice cream, dairy-free and vegan options, and more than sixty toppings, along with “Yo-To-Go” quarts made in-house, açaí bowls, ice cream cakes, and other novelties. Pup cups are also available.

Yogybee | 202 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood; 137 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick; 176 Livingston Street, Northvale; 1 Garden State Plaza Space A8B, Paramus

Yogybee is a Bergen County–based brand originally known for its frozen yogurt, but has expanded to include customizable power smoothies, wraps, salads, and shakes. The original Waldwick location opened in 2012 and remains popular among North Jersey residents. Yogybee’s Ridgewood, Waldwick, Northvale, and Paramus locations all serve frozen yogurt, though not in a traditional self-serve format.
