The Backstory
Lava Fitness is a boutique personal fitness studio specializing in the Lagree Method. Jersey Shore local and Lagree-Certified Fitness Instructor Lucy Muhlenbruck opened the studio in May 2024.
“When I first opened Lava I had clients who had never strength trained before and now 6 months later, they are holding planks for over a minute and lunging and squatting with over 70 pounds of weight! It’s an incredible privilege to be able to guide people through their health and fitness journeys,” Lucy told The Jersey Shore Girl.
Lava Fitness has nine microformers for a sweaty full-body workout. Instructors walk around to help everyone with their form and alignment. Unlike a large class setting, instructors at Lava give personalized attention for a safe workout and maximum results.
“It does not matter if you are a world-class athlete or you are just starting your fitness journey, at Lava every class will be challenging but achievable,” Lucy said.
Lava Fitness has Lagree, barre, and sculpt classes, all of which are equally challenging and rewarding. Word to the wise: make sure to bring a water bottle and grip socks to each class.
What is The Lagree Method?
The Lagree Method is a low-impact workout that combines bodybuilding techniques with low-impact and high-intensity drills on the microformer.
Workouts usually include traditional strength training moves (think: squats, lunges, bicep curls) at a slow and controlled pace to keep the muscle under constant tension. Lagree is designed to strengthen, tone, and tighten muscles without putting extra stress on the joints. Expect to sweat, shake, and feel sore the next day — but it’ll be well worth it.
“You don’t have to do hours of cardio at the gym, just 45 minutes of time under tension is all you need to find amazing results,” Lucy said.
Join a Supportive Community at Lava Fitness
Lava Fitness has become a go-to fitness studio in Ocean County. Not only can you get an excellent workout here, but it is also a place to make new friends.
“Lava offers a high-intensity 45-minute full-body workout with an amazing community of (mostly) women who have become each other's inspiration and cheering section,” Lucy said.
Newbies of all levels are always welcome and encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early to meet the instructor and learn how to use the microformer.
“I’d have to say the best thing is watching how strong my clients have become and seeing them commit not only to this method, but to themselves. They inspire me every day to be a better instructor,” Lucy said.
Lava Fitness is the only licensed Lagree fitness studio in Ocean County. The studio is open seven days a week all year long. Currently, classes run on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7AM-12PM and at 4:30 PM on Tuesdays.
