Two Asbury Park favorites are closing as of Summer 2026. Lovesick, and Homesick, sister businesses located at 522 Cookman Avenue in downtown Asbury Park, are known for their cozy vibes, great menus, and inventive cocktails. Here’s what we know about the Homesick and Lovesick closing on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park.
Homesick
When Homesick opened, owners Jim and Meg envisioned a restaurant on Cookman Avenue that would offer a dining option where patrons could feel a personal connection and a sense of home. The restaurant quickly became known for its weekend jazz brunches and homestyle meals. The space was previously home to Brickwall Tavern, which occupied the space for 15 years.
Menu favorites include the garlicky spaghetti and eggs brunch dish topped with crispy breadcrumbs, a savory chicken pot pie (which uses the same crust as some of the desserts), a seasonal pasta feature, and delicate crab cakes served with a fresh jicama slaw. If there was room for dessert, the homemade cherry pie was a must-order.
Lovesick
Lovesick, a groovy little wine and cocktail bar dotted with warm multicolor lights and a shelf lined with purple backlit bottles, featured an extensive wine program and a unique small plates menu that often featured two types of ramen. Known as a place to host private events or to dance until they closed to a live DJ, it was a go-to destination for a nightcap.
When hunger struck while sitting at the bar, favorite orders have been the crispy and juicy popcorn chicken, the cold noodle bowl with flavorful tofu, and, in winter, the vegetarian ramen. In 2025, the drink menu received an upgrade when it offered the Dubai chocolate martini, which tastes as good as it sounds.
What’s Next
Rumor has it that this turnkey building should have a buyer fairly quickly. Per the listing, the sale will include the real estate, which is composed of three contiguous commercial condominiums, the business, all equipment, furnishings, inventory, and a liquor license. The floor area includes 4,170 square feet of dining area, two bars, and a fully equipped kitchen, plus a full 4,370 square foot usable basement.
Locals are certainly hoping for a new spot to come in quickly, especially since there are several other restaurants that are still closed under extended construction along Cookman and on Lake Drive. Though a public announcement has not yet been made, we anticipate that the Smith Restaurant Group will share the news soon. Lovesick and Homesick staff will have the option to transfer to other Smith property restaurants in the area. A representative of the business declined to comment on the situation. The Jersey Shore Girl will update this piece with more information when we have it.
