Early morning coffee runs are a crucial component of any successful summer, and Lavallette locals just got a new option. La Costa is a new coffee and breakfast shop at 1404 Grand Central Avenue serving up canned coffees (more on this in a sec), dirty sodas, delicious bagels, and other morning delights. Translating to “the coast,” this new spot brings a slice of the tropics to the Jersey Shore. Keep reading to learn more about La Costa, Lavallette’s newest coffee shop.
Lavallette’s Newest Coffee Shop
Hints of a new coffee shop first appeared at 1404 Grand Central Avenue last summer, with the words “La Costa” painted on the side of the building. It was unclear at the time what would be coming to the space, but in the year since, the team has been slowly building a following on social media and IRL, sharing its indulgent canned drinks and treats with the community.
La Costa officially opened its doors this April, introducing a new, tropical-themed option to the small Jersey Shore town. The space inside is massive, with floor-to-ceiling windows at the front that fill it with gorgeous summer light.

The menu is small, but mighty: bagels, specialty coffees, matchas, and dirty sodas. The coolest part? All of the drinks are served in cans, packaged right on-site (yes, like soda cans). It’s a true display of ingenuity that’s perfectly suited for beach life — once you order, you can pack the coffees directly in your cooler and keep ’em cold until you settle into your spot at the beach. 
The bagel options also show a stroke of brilliance. There are no hot sandwiches (if you’re looking for a good BEC, we suggest driving slightly further down the road to Lava Java). Instead, there are just a few spreads and toppings that you can mix and match with different flavors. Everything with cream cheese and tomato, plain with butter and jam, etc., etc.
La Costa is a welcome addition to Lavallette’s growing caffeine scene, and we’re already plotting our next trip back. The shop is open 7AM – 4PM every day of the week at 1404 Grand Central Avenue.
