Elevated Coastal Mexican Cuisine

Barrio Costero is known for its incredible coastal Mexican cuisine. The menu was recently upgraded to feature additional elevated items.

“We believe some of the best food globally, especially in Mexico, comes from street carts and small restaurants making family recipes. By combining an appreciation for simplicity with a passion for fresh, quality ingredients, the Barrio culinary team finds their creativity and innovation in the deep roots of authentic Mexican culture,” Chris Viola, CDO of Culture Collective, said.

The restaurant follows a shared plate concept + the team recommends ordering multiple plates for the table. Some food highlights include the tostadas, “chorizo” cauliflower tacos, tuna sashimi ceviche, barrio nachos, + vegan-friendly squash arepa. Many food items are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, or vegetarian, and Barrio Costero is always respectful of all dietary restrictions.

The impressive bar program highlights rare tequilas + mezcals. The cocktail menu includes house-made margaritas with a variety of custom salts, Palomas, Micheladas, and sangria.

Taco Tuesdays + Special Events

Every Tuesday at Barrio is Taco Tuesday where guests can enjoy two tacos + one margarita for $17. This special rotates weekly so regulars can try different flavor combinations like short rib tinga tacos, popcorn shrimp tacos, and a coloradita mole taco with chicken + crispy bacon.

Happy hour runs on Tuesdays and Fridays from 4PM-6PM and all night on Thursdays with discounts on select cocktails. The Barrio Costero team also puts on special events throughout the year with interesting collabs + tasting menus. Past events have included a 4-course Punjabi-Mexican collab and a 12-course Taco Omakase.

Guests can join the Agave Spirits Club to participate in private tastings and special events + for discounts on mezcal flights at Barrio Costero. The restaurant is available for private events, like dinner parties and wedding rehearsals.

Whether guests come to Barrio Costero for a special event, Taco Tuesday, or just to celebrate the weekend, they will always enjoy a delicious meal + warm hospitality.

“We give our all to our guests to create memorable experiences with good food + drinks and even better company,” Chris said.

All About Barrio Costero

A group of friends opened Barrio Costero in 2016 to share their passion for creating memories + special experiences through food. The friends named the restaurant Barrio Costero, which means “coastal neighborhood,” as a nod to the incredible hospitality in the Asbury Park community.

“Unlike a lot of shore towns, the lights never turn off in Asbury Park. There is so much support from our surrounding townships, it is a great outlet all year round for the arts & music, as well as a dining destination,” Culture Collective Creative Director Pat Pipi told The Jersey Shore Girl.

Barrio Costero is a place for one-of-a-kind experiences. Guests are invited to make meaningful connections with loved ones while enjoying delicious + elevated Mexican cuisine.

Mexican folklore has an expression for rare and serendipitous connections: “once in a rabbit moon.” The restaurant’s logo features a rabbit in honor of this tradition.

Local artists designed + crafted the restaurant’s beautiful atmosphere, which was inspired by the artisanal, handmade materials often seen in Mexican homes or hotels. The entire space feels simple, natural, + bold.

The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday, and the hours change seasonally. It is closed on Monday and Wednesday. Reservations can be made online but take-out is available for anyone craving a delicious meal to-go.
