Summer and prime beach season are in full swing here at the Jersey Shore, and there’s nothing like a little self-care to boost your summer wellness routine. One of our favorite spots to do just that is Attain Med Spa, located at 340 Main Street in Allenhurst with other locations in Hoboken, NJ, and Charleston, SC. Attain is a comprehensive medical spa that specializes in cosmetic treatments and proactive health assessments all under one roof, and most recently launched a new concierge and wheels-up service called Attain Total Health. We recently had the chance to chat with Attain Med Spa’s founder + owner, Lauren Ben-Meir, about her thriving business and what’s to come for Attain — including more about the med spa’s involvement in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Launch Weekend and the infamous Tarte Cosmetics trip. The Hoboken Girl: What inspires you in your line of work?

Lauren Ben-Meir: Helping people and problem-solving. This all started by creating what I saw was a gap in the market for sustainable and attainable skincare. It’s incredible, knowing the same things I want and need for myself helps others. I feel I can really make a difference in our industry.

HG: If you could inspire people in one way based on the work you do, what would that mean to you?

LBM: To not give up, continue to be an advocate for yourself and your loved ones. Never be afraid to challenge the status quo.

HG: What are your goals with your business + work in the community?

LBM: My biggest goal is to help as many people as possible, and provide a home for their self-care needs. To continue to be a privately owned company succeeding in a world where having large investors and private equity can scale you faster than the mom-and-pops but often cause companies to lose their DNA. We are very clear on our values and feel good going to bed at night knowing we do great work, uplift people, communities, create partnerships, and promote other businesses that are ethical.

HG: Tell us about the last 5 years. What are you most proud of? What has been the biggest challenge?

LBM: Challenge: we are still a privately owned company. Most proud: we are still a privately owned company. We have weathered many storms, lived through the highs and the lows and we are still here smiling and with gratitude. We love what we do and when our patients come to us they tell us they not only love our work but our environment and how they are treated. We have managed to be here five-plus years having started with little money and a big mission.

Our motto dictates everything: “Great skin care shouldn’t take the whole day or whole paycheck”.

Our goal is not solely to democratize treatments but also to show our commitment to diversity in skincare. We invest in the machines, products, and training to effectively and safely treat a full spectrum of skin types — which is sadly not common in this space. So this we will continue to tackle. We have amazing providers and spaces that feel like home. We have a 5-star rating on Google and that makes me proud as customer service means the world at Attain.

HG: What’s a service that you never thought would be popular, + now is a huge part of your business?

LBM: All the services at Attain, that are most popular, performed as expected because we spoke to so many people about what they needed and wanted. This brand isn’t just our brand, it’s everyone’s brand. We bring services we believe people want and price in a way that makes it hopefully more affordable and sustainable.

HG: You recently were a part of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Launch Weekend, + a little birdie told us that you’re part of the infamous Tarte Cosmetics trip. Tell us about how those opportunities came to be, + what was the most fun part of taking part in them?

LBM: YES! We are still pinching ourselves. We showed our way of providing skincare, and brought our team members and favorite treatments. The SI Team and the models were so good to us and we were so proud to be there. They are such a positive community. Our stories of how this came to be are simple and profound. We were recommended to SI by my dear friend and Attain Medspa supporter, MJ of Electric Picks. It stands as the single most generous thing anyone has ever done for us. Someone supporting and believing in you makes all the difference in life. And it also makes us want to pay it forward when given the opportunity.

We just came back from Tarte and it was a beautiful and fun weekend. We absolutely love Tarte and spent time with their team during SI. Getting to see them again, work closely, and meet their influencers was such a fantastic opportunity. Tarte is as fun, kind, creative, and inclusive as they appear. I instantly felt so much synergy as they took care of their clients much like we do our patients. Also the camaraderie within their team, they are a family.

With SI we were able to demonstrate our skincare knowledge and with Tarte, we were able to demonstrate our medical side by providing IVs and such. But we are Attain so that means it was going to have our touch and bespoke care. This was a huge opportunity to show what makes us unique and the customized care we provide across all genres of care.

We feel in two short months we are now part of three families: Electric Picks, which is one of the best jewelry companies out there, Sports Illustrated Swim, and Tarte. I would go anywhere and everywhere with those companies and teams.

HG: You also recently introduced Attain Total Health, + a concierge/wheels-up service. Tell us more about that!

LBM: Attain Total Health was born out of my own experience within healthcare and what I learned to be a similar tale among so many. Many of us, across all ages, finances, and ethnicities do not know our own baseline. We don’t know how these things affect our overall health and even things like our skin, hair, weight, and even libido. Many of us do not have a primary care provider, and when we do we wait ages to see them and lose our entire day in waiting rooms. This is a generalization of the system. And with so many having the same complaints we wanted to step up. So we provide non-insurance required services and studies to help empower our patients in their healthcare journey.

Concierge and wheels-up is our way of providing our services and care outside of our locations. We want to make sure we can be where you need us and how you need us. And a team with the same goals and values has no limit. We love going offsite, venues, homes, offices, etc.

HG: What are some upcoming expansions for Attain that you’re most excited about?

LBM: We are so excited for what’s ahead! We have two more locations coming and several more events. We have great partnerships in the works and feel just so blessed and grateful for all we have. A lot of what we are building is outside of our buildings and the most valuable thing is relationships. The relationship we have with our community, with brands we align with, and ourselves as a team fills our cup. We have a full platform for community coming and much of it is entirely free. It will help us give back and make sure everyone can benefit from what we do and what we have learned over the years.
