Rosh Hashanah starts on the evening of Monday, September 22nd, and ends on Wednesday, September 24th, while Yom Kippur starts the evening of Wednesday, October 1st, and runs through Thursday, October 2nd. Here is a compilation of local spots that are serving Jewish food and desserts that would make for a tasty treat on Rosh Hashanah, or a great snack for breaking fast on Yom Kippur. This Jersey City-based bakery, specializing in Jewish pastries, serves babka and challah, but with an innovative twist. North New Jersey locals can expect to find one-of-a-kind babka flavors, such as “Cereal Milk,” which is made with marshmallow fluff and condensed milk and coated in fruity pebbles, or “Zhater Feta Mozzarella,” made with Turkish herbs, feta, and mozzarella cheese. Along with other creative babka breads like cinnamon sugar and Nutella, the bakery serves a traditional challah bread topped with sesame seeds, and a challah bread blended with brie cheese and hints of ube.

Hank Schwartz’s Delicatessen | Online
Hank Schwartz’s Delicatessen is taking orders for Yom Kippur. The last day to order is September 18th for Rosh Hashanah and September 28th for Yom Kippur. Customers can find Jewish pastries, such as pull-apart challah, black rooster Baltic rye, and apple honey olive oil cake. However, this deli serves more than just pastries. It also serves a variety of Jewish delicacies, like chopped liver, vegan chopped liver, vegan carrot lox, whitefish salad, and more. Yuki’s Coffee + Bakery | 720 Monroe Street Store E101, Hoboken
Yuki’s Bakery + Coffee is serving Jewish delicacies for the High Holy Days, like apple cake (vegan), honey cake (vegan), rugelach cake (vegan + nut-free), round challah with raisins, round challah, and babka in flavors such as Nutella and cinnamon streusel. This bakery will accept pre-orders through September 19th, 2025 at 12PM. Available pickup days include September 22nd from 8AM to 6PM and September 23rd from 8AM to 6PM.

Cait + Abby’s Bakery is a beloved North Jersey bakeshop serving Jewish pastries made to order. Customers can preorder Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur desserts, such as chocolate babka, challah, in various flavors like poppy-seed, raisin, and sesame, rugelach in either chocolate, cinnamon, or raspberry nut, and honey cakes in fruit flavor or plain. The Rosh Hashanah menu went up on September 10th, and the Yom Kippur menu can be expected within the coming weeks.
Eppes Essen Deli + Restaurant | 105 East Mount Pleasant Avenue, Livingston
Originally opened in 1956 in Newark, this New York-style Jewish deli and restaurant made its way to Orange before finally finding its current home in Livingston. Eppes Essen has an extensive menu consisting of sandwiches, platters, salads, desserts, and more. Hobby’s Delicatessen + Restaurant | 32 Brandford Place #2723, Newark
Hobby’s Deli is a top-rated Jewish deli in downtown Newark near the Prudential Center. Aside from serving up hard-to-find and top-quality Eastern European delicacies like corned beef, chopped liver, potato pancakes, and homemade soups, this old-fashioned spot also has a selection of fresh salads and other modern fare and daily specials. Hobby’s is best known for its mouthwatering corned beef.
Nana’s Deli | 210 Hudson Street, Jersey City (inside Harborside Building) + 27 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston
This Jewish deli has a location in Livingston and a pop-up location in Jersey City at the Harborside Building. Known for Jewish staples like matzo ball soup and brisket, Nana’s Deli is providing a special menu for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The window to order off the Rosh Hashanah menu has closed, but locals are encouraged to visit in person to see what’s left. For Yom Kippur, the menu is promised to be released sometime next week. North New Jersey locals can expect to find options, such as poached salmon, potato kugel, homemade rugelach, and plain or raisin challah.
Liv Breads Artisan Bakery + Coffee Bar | 184 Essex Street, Millburn + 1200 Morris Turnpike, Short Hills
With four locations across New Jersey, this Israeli bakery was named 2018’s “Best Challah” at The World Bread Awards. For the High Holidays, Liv Breads is serving Jewish pastries and breads, such as honey cake, chocolate-graham babka, toffee cinnamon pecan babka, a five-piece rugelach, Jerusalem-style bagels, and challah in plain and raisin. Marcel Bakery + Kitchen | 631 1/2 Valley Road, Montclair
This bakery and restaurant serves a delightful selection of Jewish breakfast and brunch options that would be great to enjoy on Rosh Hashanah or after the fast on Yom Kippur. Customers can find Jerusalem-style bagels and dishes such as the “Challa Ya’ Toast,” which is comprised of three pieces of challah toast, topped with whipped cream, powdered sugar, and fresh fruit, and “The Committed Jew,” a seeded bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, pickled onions, and dill sauce. Marcel Bakery + Kitchen is also serving a dish called the “Israeli Breakfast,” which is a platter of two sunny-side up eggs, halloumi cheese, sour pickles, Israeli salad, labne, and pita.
Mikki + Al’s Noshery | 179 Glenridge Avenue, Montclair
This Jewish-style deli strives to make the best pastrami sandwich around. Named in tribute to the owner’s in-laws, Mikki and Al, the Noshery brings some nostalgia to the sandwich business, striving to bring some childhood and family favorites to its customers. The Rosh Hashanah menu can be found here. The last day to order is September 14th, and pickups will be on September 20th and 21st. The Yom Kippur menu has not yet been released.
Locations to Visit in Bergen County
Foster Village | 469 South Washington Avenue, Bergenfield
A family-owned community favorite, Foster Village is commonly regarded as one of Bergen County’s most rich locations for Jewish cuisine. They are well-known for its quality of pastrami and other meats, delivering a variety of sandwiches with a particular attention to cultural detail. They are serving a specialty menu for Rosh Hashana that includes glazed brisket, oven-roasted turkey breast, goulash (beef stew), and a wide range of side dishes to accompany the flavorful entrees.
Foster Village has catering and will provide Rosh Hashanah selections for the remainder of the holiday season, outside of the scheduled closed days from September 22nd to September 25th.
The Kosher Nosh | 894 Prospect Street, Glen Rock
One of Bergen County’s longest-standing restaurants, The Kosher Nosh has been in operation for 49 years and is graciously involved in the holiday season with specialized menus. They are accepting orders for both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, with options for specialized pickup, delivery, and catering.
Some of the top dining options include deli and chicken platters, smoked fish and salad platters, deli sandwiches, and desserts. The spot also has cultural favorites, such as desserts for Oneg Shabbat (social gatherings that celebrate the Jewish Sabbath, Shabbat), and meals for Shiva, the seven-day Jewish period of mourning.

Noah’s Ark | 493 Cedar Lane, Teaneck
Specializing in frozen catering, Noah’s Ark has provided mail-ordered gourmet kosher food since 1988. They ship frozen dishes cross-country and are known for its exceptional catering, two qualities that have received acclaim from customers. The “travel meals”, which have the made-to-ship frozen items, include appetizers, desserts, deli meats, and breakfast items.
The large-scale family catering includes celebratory Shabbat dinner packages and a handful of fusion options, including a taco bar package, slider grill package, and All-American chicken platter. Customers can also surprise family members with some of the well-designed gifts, which range from cards to sweet treats.

Tenafly Kosher Deli + Caterers | 22 Washington Street, Tenafly
Tenafly Kosher Deli has been in business since 1956, with decades of cooking experience that customers cherish deeply. It is best known for sandwiches, which are considered the signature dish here. The most popular option is the pastrami sandwich, with corned beef, brisket, and white turkey sandwiches being some of theother top selections.
