Sunflowers are probably one of the most well-known flowers around: ones that we could all recognize with no florist required. Seeing as summer is currently in full swing, and fall is right around the corner, several Northern Virginia locations are offering sunflower fields to access that are either open now or will be open within the next few weeks. And, at several, you’ll be able to cut sunflowers straight from the fields yourself. Read on for a list of Northern Virginia sunflower farms, fields and more.

Braehead Farm | 1130 Tyler Street, Fredericksburg
This family-owned and operated farm has been open since 1937. It has “pick your own” fields with a variety of berries, vegetables, and more, including sunflowers. The farm is open every day from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the exception of special days that are outlined online. Check the farm’s social media for the latest information.
Burns Flower Farm | 18800 Woodburn Road, Leesburg

This farm invites customers to cut their own bouquets for $30 and provides the supplies needed as well as a take-home cup. The farm is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and during rainy days, but is open every other day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Burnside Farms | 11008 Kettle Run Road, Nokesville

Burnside Farms has a Summer of Sunflowers event that is currently running from July 12th to August 9th and includes 78 acres of sunflowers. To attend this event, tickets must be purchased online beforehand. The farm has specific hours online based on the weather.

Great Country Farms | 34345 Snickersville Turnpike, Bluemont

Great Country Farms is currently doing a Summer of Sunflowers event, which started July 1st and will run until August 14th. The times for this event are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (ending an hour before the farm itself closes), and tickets must be bought in order to participate. A bouquet can be cut for $1 per bloom.
Hollin Farms | 1524 Snowden Road, Delaplane
The farm updates its website each week with hours and what is available to pick or cut, including fruits and flowers. It’s currently offering a flower garden for customers to cut their own flowers from, with sunflowers being one of the options. The farm has containers.
Messick’s Farm Market Bealeton | 6025 Catlett Road, Bealeton

Messick’s Farm is family-owned and is open year-round for seasonal fun. For late summer, the farm has PYO sunflowers. Your $3 admission gets you 5 sunflowers, and additional stems are $2 each. You can also purchase a flower cup for $15. Messick’s Farm Market is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Seven Oaks Lavender Farm | 8769 Old Dumfries Road, Catlett

Seven Oaks Lavender Farm has a deep familial background dating back to the 1700s and is located in Fauquier County. While it’s mainly a lavender farm, there are other blooms, including sunflowers, available to be picked during the weekends of July and August.

Sneads Farm | 18294 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg

The Fall Festival at Sneads Farm will feature sunflower fields as one of its many attractions throughout the event that are free with admission. The festival begins September 26th and ends November 1st. Sneads Farm is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but there’s no entry after 4:45 PM.
Temple Hall Farm Pumpkin Patch and Sunflower Fields | 15855 Limestone School Road, Leesburg

Dates for this yearly festival have yet to be announced, but based on past years, it will begin in mid-September and run through Halloween. This working farm has a huge sunflower patch with a pick-your-own option.
