Splash Pads in Northern Virginia You Need to Know

With record-setting high temperatures in the forecast, we’re sharing all of our favorite ways to stay cool. One of the more fun ways for little ones to cool down is to spend time at a splash pad. From town center fountains to dedicated park spraygrounds, there are plenty of local spots where kids can cool off, run around, and get some fresh air. Read on for splash pads and spraygrounds in Northern Virginia, organized by county.

City of Alexandria

Martin Luther King Jr. Pool + Splashpad | 8115 Fordson Road

Hours: Open weekends; open daily except Tuesdays June 20-August 23. Check Fairfax County Park Authority for daily operating hours + weather closures.

Martin Luther King Jr. Pool + Splashpad is a new Fairfax County Park Authority spot with an inclusive splash pad for all ages and abilities. The splash pad opened for the 2026 summer season and replaced the former tot pool, giving families another way to cool off in the Alexandria area.

Potomac Yard Park | 2501 Potomac Avenue

Hours: Daily fountain hours are 10AM-9PM from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend; 10AM-8PM after Labor Day through approximately mid-October.

Potomac Yard Park is a go-to Alexandria spot for a summer cool-down. The interactive fountain is located between two playgrounds and includes water jets, programmable sequences, and recycled water features, making it an easy add-on to a park day.

Drew Park | 3514 22nd Street S

Hours: Monday 2PM-8PM; Tuesday closed; Wednesday 10AM-3PM; Thursday 2PM-8PM; Friday 10AM-8PM; Saturday + Sunday 12PM-8PM.

Drew Park is one of Arlington’s public spraygrounds, making it a low-key summer stop for families. The schedule varies by day, so this is a good one to double-check before packing up the kids.

Hayes Park | 1516 N Lincoln Street

Hours: Monday + Thursday 10AM-3PM; Tuesday + Friday 2PM-8PM; Wednesday closed; Saturday + Sunday 12PM-8PM.

Hayes Park is another Arlington sprayground to know for the warmer months. The park has restrooms and on-site parking, which makes it especially helpful for families looking for an easy outing.

Long Bridge Park | 475 Long Bridge Drive

Hours: Daily, 7AM-10PM.

Long Bridge Park has an interactive water feature that is open to all ages. The park also has restrooms and on-site metered parking, making it a convenient add to the Arlington splash pad list.

Lyon Village Park | 1800 N Highland Street

Hours: Monday + Tuesday 10AM-3PM; Wednesday + Friday 2PM-8PM; Thursday closed; Saturday + Sunday 12PM-8PM.

Lyon Village Park is a smaller Arlington sprayground that works well for a quick neighborhood cool-down. Parking is limited, so plan ahead if visiting during a busy weekend window.

Mosaic Park | 544 N Pollard Street

Hours: Daily, 7AM-10PM.

Mosaic Park is one of Arlington’s interactive water feature spots. The water feature runs daily and gives families a simple way to cool off while spending time in the Ballston area.

Penrose Square | 2597 Columbia Pike

Hours: Daily, 7AM-10PM; closed Wednesdays for maintenance.

Penrose Square is a convenient Columbia Pike water feature for families looking for a quick splash pad stop. Note that it closes on Wednesdays for maintenance.

Virginia Highlands Park | 1600 S Hayes Street

Hours: Daily, 10AM-8PM.

Virginia Highlands Park is one of Arlington’s easiest sprayground picks, especially for families near Pentagon City. The park is Metro-accessible and has restrooms nearby.

Fairfax County

Boro Park Splash Pad | 8350 Broad Street, Tysons

Hours: Daily, 9AM-9PM during the summer season; check Instagram for closures and event-related updates.

Located on the upper promenade at The Boro, this 15-jet splash pad is an easy Tysons stop for kids to cool off. It is surrounded by restaurants, shops, and outdoor gathering space, so families can turn a splash pad stop into a fuller outing.

Lake Anne Park + Splash Pad | 11301 North Shore Drive, Reston

Hours: Typically 9AM-9PM in the summer.

Lake Anne Park + Splash Pad is one of Reston Association’s public splash pads. The splash pads are equipped with a button or switch to turn on the water jets, helping conserve water when the splash pad is not in use.

Mosaic District | Near 2911 District Avenue, Fairfax

Hours: Open seasonally May-September, 9:15AM-9:45PM.

Mosaic District’s splash pad is a Fairfax favorite for families spending the day in the area. With Strawberry Park Playground, shops, and restaurants nearby, it is an easy warm-weather stop.

Old Town Square | 10415 North Street, Fairfax

Hours: Splash pad hours are 8AM-10PM, May-October. The splash pad may close on event days, for repairs, or for maintenance.

Old Town Square in Fairfax has a splash pad in the heart of the city’s downtown area. It is a nice pick for pairing water play with a walk around Old Town Fairfax.

Our Special Harbor | 6601 Telegraph Road, Franconia

Hours: Open weekends; open daily June 20-August 23. Check Fairfax County Park Authority for daily operating hours + weather closures.

Our Special Harbor is a fully accessible Chesapeake Bay-themed spray park at Franconia Park. The spray park includes water mazes, buckets, a spraying osprey nest, and a quieter beach area with soft bubblers and interactive water tables.

Polo Club Splash Pad | 12700 B Thunderchase Drive, Reston

Hours: Dawn till dusk, summertime 

Polo Club Splash Pad is part of Reston Association’s public splash pad lineup. Like the other RA splash pads, visitors can use a button or switch to turn on the jets.

Reston Town Square Park Splash Pad | 11900 Market Street, Reston

Hours: Hours vary; check Reston Town Center updates before visiting.

Reston Town Square Park Splash Pad is located in Reston Town Center. It is a convenient cool-down stop for families already spending time in the area.

Shadowood Splash Pad | 2201 Springwood Drive, Reston

Hours: Typically 9AM-9PM in the summer.

Shadowood Splash Pad is another Reston Association public splash pad. It is a simple summer stop for families looking for a casual way to get outside and cool off.

Uplands Pool + Splash Pad | 11032 Ring Road, Reston

Hours: Typically 9AM to 7PM

This RA-managed pool and splash pad is a quiet place to cool off on a hot day.

Loudoun County

Ashburn Rec + Community Center | 21105 Coopers Hawk Drive, Ashburn

Hours: May 4-May 29, 10AM-8PM; closed May 30-June 14 for annual maintenance; June 15-August 16, 10AM-8PM; August 17-September 7, 10AM-7PM; September 8-September 20, 12PM-6PM.

Ashburn Rec + Community Center has an outdoor splash pad with water features for kids. The hours shift throughout the season, so this is one to check before heading out.

Franklin Park Pool + Splash Pad | 17501 Franklin Park Drive, Purcellville

Franklin Park Pool + Splash Pad is a pool-and-splash-pad destination in Purcellville. The barnyard-inspired splash pad features spill basins, a water cage, frog and fish spouts, and a barn slide.
