Bergen County pizza fans, say hello to SQ Pizza in Montvale. The newly opened restaurant located at 200 Market Street, Suite 260 serves authentic Roman-style pizza, pasta, salad, and scratch-made gelato, making this the second location for the popular fast-casual concept. Owners George and Anoush Georgiades opened the first SQ Pizza in their hometown of Mahwah in 2021. Read on to learn more about SQ Pizza in Montvale, New Jersey.
What, You Ask, is Roman-Style Pizza?
One big difference is the dough. SQ Pizza is made with high-hydration, long-rising, 72-hour dough with quality ingredients, and non-GMO wheat flour imported from Italy. As a result, it’s a light, airy, crispy, and (most important!) delicious slice, usually cut into squares. SQP also has two fantastic-tasting gluten-free crust options, so it’s a perfect choice for pizza lovers with gluten sensitivity.

Menu + Ambiance
A lot is going on at SQP. The classic square can be ordered by the slice, a 6-slice half pan, or a 12-slice full pan. Flavors run the gamut: classic Margherita; Peppi (pepperoni, mozzarella, + tomato); Popeye (white pie with spinach, ricotta, + mozzarella); Spicy (tomato, jalapenos, ricotta, grape tomatoes, + dried red chili flakes) and Buffalo Chicken. Traditionalists can enjoy classic round pies, wings, artisanal sandwiches, and freshly made, from-scratch gelato in yummy flavors. Free toppings include Fruit Loops, marshmallows, and rainbow sprinkles.
Rome, of course, is where George and Anoush drew inspiration for the business. Montvale’s hip, rustic decor features a tomato-can menu, napkin holders, and a cheeky portrait of the Mona Lisa brandishing a pizza.
About the Owners
George Georgiades was born and raised in Chelsea, NYC. His heritage? Greek and Italian. His first culinary influence was his mother — he became interested in cooking as a boy when he helped make Greek pastries for her catering business. A graduate of the prestigious Johnson + Wales culinary program, George began his career in the catering kitchen of the glamorous Hotel Pierre, continuing his progression through beloved NYC restaurants like La Côte Basque, Hudson River Club, Bar Six, and Chez Es Saada, before being named Chef at Avra Estiatorio, a position he held for years. NJ lovers of Greek cuisine will also remember George as Executive Chef/Partner of Varka Estiatorio in Ramsey.
Anoush Georgiades came to the business via an entirely different path. “My family immigrated from Armenia, so when I arrived in the US at 12, I had to learn American culture, language, and cuisine,” she says. Her first love was music and music education. A talented musician and teacher of violin, viola, and piano, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Juilliard, and then a doctorate from Stony Brook University. Anoush supported her early music career by working in numerous Manhattan restaurants. She met George when both were at Avra. After marrying and starting a family, they began percolating a plan for fast-casual concepts closer to their home in Bergen County.
