Apparently, A Meteor Just Passed Through New Jersey

Around 2:30PM today, the American Meteor Society confirmed several reports of a fireball above the tri-state area, with spottings across New Jersey.

News 12 NJ shared the view from Forked River, NJ, where the fireball is clearly visible (albeit with a little bit of zoom 🤏🔎).

A fireball is an unusually bright meteor that reaches a visual magnitude of -3 or brighter when seen at the observer’s zenith. News 12 also reported that the fireball was accompanied with a loud boom, which means the object was traveling as fast as the speed of sound.
