This is a special literary space in Jersey City Heights where love, culture, coffee, and community thrive. It’s designed to connect others through storytelling. The owner’s earliest known Yoruba ancestor was named Abake, and, in translation, the meaning is “to be loved”. Enjoy coffee from beans across Africa and authors from across the diaspora. The grand opening of Abake Books and Cafe was a success recently. 

Aura Pilates Studio and Cafe | 83 North Beverwyk Road, Lake Hiawatha

This welcoming sanctuary is wellness-inspired. Evolving Pilates, yoga, an esthetic spa, and cafe altogether.  Self-care may occur in many ways while enjoying a lavender matcha,  fresh juices with no added sugars, smoothies, or fruit waffles. Indulgence may result in an Oreo Latte with Dulce de Leche. Bloombar Cafe et Fleurs | Multiple Locations 

These cafes come fully equipped with a floral market and boutique. Enjoy the coffee, matcha, and pastries. Engage at a Bloombar Cafe et Fleurs in NJ with astonishing floral arrangements. Brooklyn has a couple of Bloombar locations in NYC. The Bloombar boutique carries modern homewares, gifts, beauty products, and lovely vases. 

Casa de Flora Bar | 75 Washington Street, Bloomfield

This is a lovely combination of a charming cafe and a flower bar. Guests can create their own custom bouquet at the “sip and clip” flower experience. The owners of The Compound just opened the Groundhouse in Caldwell, another wellness hub.   

A Cup of Literature | 704 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park 

Happiness is coffee, a good book, and a strong workout. Start your day or enjoy an afternoon brew at Cup of Literature with signature offerings including the Maple Mockingbird Cappuccino, the Green Gables Matcha Latte, and the Chai Gatsby. You can also purchase an assortment of pastries, including vegan and GF options. Books may be purchased. There’s also a cool book trade where you leave a book and take a book for free. The fitness program is catered to all fitness levels for Pilates, varieties of yoga, barre, plus restorative movement. The same space is used for hosting sound bowl healing, breathwork, book clubs, and Mommy and Me Yoga. 

The Fine Grind | 101 Route. 23 South, Little Falls 

Not just a coffee shop, TFG is a suitable space for creatives alike and different. Art exhibits are organized featuring local artists’ work. There are ongoing events, which include poetry open mics, game nights, and live music. 

Grind Coffee Shop | 293 Suydam Avenue, Jersey City 

A coffee shop indeed, yet it’s a meeting place for weekly run groups developed by The Grind Society in Jersey City.  Runners of all levels can join in on the fun. The run club is free to join. This running community has a friendly vibe, offering everything running can provide: strength, discipline, and good times. The coffee shop carries lots of hot or cold drinks and bagels, too.

This coffee shop is calm and welcoming with a ceramics painting studio. People visit to relax, create, and connect for a sweet time. Hug a Mug serves specialty drinks, delicious toasts, oatmeal bowls, yogurt bowls, and freshly baked muffins. Reserve seating for the ceramic painting. Jessie’s of Linwood | 136 West Poplar Avenue, Linwood   

Jessie’s is more than a cafe and is just a stroll away from the ocean. It is an open year-round hub welcoming creativity. Jessie’s proudly supports local musicians, local artists, and creators. Enjoy the light fare and specialty drinks in this accommodating and friendly setting that provides a safe place to connect. There’s a gig booking directly on the website. 

Nightshade Coffee | 459 Broadway, Westwood

Mysteriously, it is known that a goth-themed coffee shop with dark elegance and vivid decor is a new spot Westwood. The provision of this space offers a Victorian-inspired coffee shop with curated eccentricities. Boldly enjoy espresso drinks, gothic treats, seasonal treats, and pastries. There will be goth night markets and open mics. This space honors local connections. Nightshade Coffee supports local bakers, roasters, and artists. 

Plantshed Cafe | 47 East Palisade Road, Englewood

These fantastic floral cafes were introduced to NYC back in 2018, as lovely floral and plant shops with a wellness cafe. The original locations of Plantshed are Nolita and the Upper West Side. Nature is the theme with lots of flowery, tropical greenery, foliage, cacti, and succulents. Premium flowers are sourced from around the globe. From selling bagged coffee and coffee gear to home and lifestyle goods and gifts, NJ is lucky to have a Plantshed Cafe and retail combination in Englewood, NJ. 

The Plant Lady’s House | 1800 NJ 35, Oakhurst 

Nubia Oliveira is the owner and operator of this cafe and indoor serene plant store. This special spot is all about community by sourcing local coffee suppliers and bakeries. Nubia upholds community support by showcasing local artists’ work on site. The artwork is lovely to see and purchase.  The most popular plants are spider and snake plants that help purify the air and clean up toxins. Nubia has a plant ICU reviving and servicing her patrons’ plants. Don’t miss the workshops like House Plants 101, therapy groups, writing groups, and yoga classes. Offering a variety of coffee drinks,  the Nutella Latte and the Pistachio Affogato are the most popular items. Try the delicious toasts. 

Pilatte | 35 Belden Place, Montclair

Pilatte is a supportive women-only pilates studio focused on strength, confidence, community, and celebrating each other’s wins. From Mat to Sculpt and Strength classes, they do it all. The mini coffee bar is an ideal place before or after class for cultivating relationships and building community ties. There’s also a preordering process. Submit an order before class, and it will be ready after the completion of the fitness session. 

Running Latte Cafe | 189 Washington Avenue, Bergenfield

The Running  Latte Cafe will be starting a run group this spring, catering to the running community and run groups.  Specialty drinks include coconut matcha, brown sugar shaken espresso, and the very popular Spanish latte. Another popular item is the arepas with cheese and a side of guava drizzle.  

SemiColon Cafe | 77 Hudson Street, Jersey City 

Plant-life is upstairs at Michelle’s Green Thumb above this sweet cafe that is serving sweet Korean milk shaved ice, a variety of coffee drinks, hot and iced teas, smoothies, and fruity, refreshing ade drinks.

Thumbody | 80 East Rte 4 Ground Floor Suite GFW, Paramus 

Thumbody is a unique cafe and record shop located behind a commercial building in Paramus. The record shop carries difficult-to-find vinyl records. The welcoming team promotes collaboration and creativity. Freshly baked goods, coffee, and teas are served daily. There is no doubt you will have an enjoyable and interesting experience. 

Waterview Art and Cafe | 689 East Bay Avenue, Barnegat Township
