Dolly Parton founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/imaginationlibrary.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Imagination Library<\/a>, an international program to give children age-appropriate books from birth until age 5. It was famously started in honor of <a href=\"https:\/\/imaginationlibrary.com\/letter-from-dolly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">her father<\/a>, who didn&#8217;t know how to read. The books are free and arrive by mail each month until the child turns 5. The Dollywood Foundation administers the overall program, which includes working with literacy experts to pick age-appropriate books. Over 3 million books per month are sent to children around the world, according to the program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/imaginationlibrary.com\/usa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local partners<\/a> buy the books, register children, and promote the program locally.&nbsp; Currently, there are <a href=\"https:\/\/imaginationlibrary.com\/usa\/find-my-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four New Jersey counties<\/a> that support the Imagination Library.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pub.njleg.state.nj.us\/Bills\/2026\/A6000\/5518_I1.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill<\/a> would see the program expanded to a statewide effort, with funding coming directly through the state Department of Education&#8217;s early education division.
